    Douglas O’Halloran -
Long time Alberta union boss dies at 66

The man who led an Alberta labour union through several contentious labour relations incidents for more than three decades has passed away.

Douglas O’Halloran was president of Local 401 of the United Food and Commercial Workers union.

O’Halloran was involved in several high-profile labour disputes in the province, including a strike at Safeway in 1997, and a contentious and violent dispute at Lakeside Packers in Brooks, Alta., in 2005 as he fought to get workers a first contract with then-owner Tyson Foods.

Leroy Fuller’s story is rather remarkable. To be in business for such a long time in a very tough industry is quite an accomplishment. I’d be interested in knowing how he ended up choosing to move to Edmonton. I remember going Fullers restaurants as a child, I always looked forward to eating there.

    He was retired.

Funny though. Just a couple days ago I saw a reference to him and was going to google him to see what he was up to. Forget that he wouldn’t be up to anything.

Read it while you can. Everything on the internet is short lived:

Bus Fuller, 90, invented now-widely imitated premium-casual chain-dining concept - The Globe and Mail

“The Green & White was located on a stretch of state highway that had been slated for the development of a cloverleaf interchange. The government agency offered to pay the dislocated business owners fairly, but almost everyone held out for a higher offer. Mr. Fuller was the only one who sold. In the end, the project was cancelled.

Mr. Fuller used that money to move the family to Edmonton, where he ...”

Ahh, but maybe it was true.
007 went underground for a couple years, then reappeared - dead!

“An Old Oilman dies and presents himself to St Peter at the Pearly Gates, but there is no room for any more oilmen in Heaven so Peter says sorry, but you will have to go down below.

Old Oilman unhappy, ponders a moment, takes a step back and bellows at the top of his voice: “Oil discovered in Hell . . . !!”.

Dead silence, then a roar and the gates are burst open with hordes of oilmen, rushing out and off down to hell.

St Peter, stunned, looks at old oilman, “Hmm . . . not sure if that should be allowed, but anyway there is loads of room in heaven now so in you go”

Old Oilman not sure, looks both ways, thinking, finally he says “you know what, thanks very much but I think I will follow the boys, there may be some truth in that rumour after all!”

Considering I'm alleged to have the tools, minions, control, and power of Spectre, I could resurrect my arch enemy's previous incarnation in some weird Dr. Who reverse play...

...but hell, I don't even make a Dr. Claw., or a KAOS drone.

Now, I'll go away and check the colour of my red face.
