The Waterloo region seems like it would be a great place for an LRT line. Especially with such a high student population who largely don't have cars. Putting the line down King Street through the heart of both downtowns also doesn't seem as horrible as it sounds. It's already a very pedestrian-dense (for Waterloo) street that most drivers avoid. Further shifting it to a transit oriented street, away from car orientation street seems logical. Besides, from my time living there at least, congested rush hour traffic for Waterloo is like 2pm in Edmonton....

Though considering the Kitchener-Waterloo population this line will specifically serve is less then 350k people, $820 million is certainly a hefty investment for them to make. Will be interesting to see how this plays out. I think its outcome could influence many smaller cities across the country.

The Waterloo LRT will allow for greater growth, similar to ones proposed for Surrey and Mississauga.
