Hi,

I will be moving to Edmonton from Montreal. I am looking for advice on which areas are nice to rent near the CFB base (as that is where I will be working). My price range will be from around 500 Ė 700 (flexible). I would like to be in an area that is conveniently located around a grocery store and other amenities. However, I plan on getting a car so I am more concerned with finding a nice place (preferably with wood floors, no carpeting). I havenít thought about any distinction between condo renting or basement suites or etc. I will be moving by myself and doubt Iíll need much space. Any suggestions would be greatly welcomed!

Check out http://www.rentedmonton.ca or the one I had luck with... http://www.rentedmonton.com

Look mainly around the 97th street corridor for the fastest commute times.

If you want an interactive map so that you can get neighborhood names... http://maps.edmonton.ca/Scripts/main.asp?Static=4&Page=&hasSVGSupport=true

If you do a Google search for Edmonton rental apartments you'll find quite a few sites with listings.

The griesbach lands which used to be owned by the military and is still primarily occupied by military families is renting townhomes. They are old but quaint. They do have hardwood floors and some of them are in pretty good shape, even nice. Griesbach is a 5 minute drive from the base.

That area has been sold to Canada Lands Company (http://www.clc.ca) and is in the middle of a redevelopment. New high end homes are being built as the older ones are being torn down or "recycled". http://www.villageatgriesbach.com/en/index.html

But in the meantime the old homes are available for rent to the general public. About three years ago they were renting for $600 but I have no idea what they're asking now.

If you want something "nice" you'll have to be prepared to spend in the upper range of your budget.

I had family here last summer looking to move here from another country and they couldn't find a nice place in that price range. All the $500 places had hookers out front and the $700 places had no vacancies.

You should also look in the Clareview area which is in the northeast and not far from the base. Lots of rentals there. You might get lucky.
