  • Councilor Sohi NOT running for mayor - staying in Ward 12

Sohi says he is not running for Mayor. He said he believes that his leadership and voice on Council will likely be much needed given Mandel's and a other Councillor's (I assume we're likely to hear of these soon) retirements, and a number of Councillors looking at running for Mayor.

Maybe he'll steer some of his fundraising machine towards a candidate that has a good shot and winning, so that Diotte doesn't win.

I think that is a smart move on his part. He is a good voice for the ward, and it is not his time.

Yep. Suspect there's talk among the more progressive councillors on how not to split the vote so that we don't end up with Mayor Cec Purves, err I mean Kerry Diotte.

        Smart, that.

Good news. He's a good councillor and would have done more harm than good running, both by splitting the vote and leaving his council seat vacant. The last thing I want to see is a crappy mayor with a pile of newbies in council looking to that crappy mayor for leadership. We need to retain a majority of the current crop of councillors.

Exactly my view as well, Chmilz.

Agree x 3. Good news for the city. Nice to see he is seeing the big picture here . Appears that he very much wants to keep this city moving forward.

Hmm. Good sign. This makes me think that Iveson will take a run.

I think Sohi will continue to provide great leadership as a councillor.

He's not running in my Ward, but I certainly support Councillor Sohi. He's intelligent and is an excellent member of City Council.

Agreed. A wise decision from a principled, hardworking, and approachable member of Council. He brings many great qualities to Council that would have been missed.

                          Nooooooooooooooooo!

I was hoping he'd run for Mayor because he'd lose. Badly.

I can say with a substantial degree of certainty that he won't be getting my vote in Ward 12.

Good move. No need to splice up the vote and let Diotte win.
Iveson has all but declared he is running.

                              We agree on that, Bill.

I'm happy that Sohi has made this decision. Good move for him and for Edmonton's future.

Expect some more announcements after FCM in Vancouver at the end of this and early next week.
