... and another ones out! Isn't this exciting? John Baird will not run for the Conservative leadership

Ah, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, that's pretty bizarre. Normally politicians go "spend time with the family" AFTER they've lost an election/race, not before. I thought maybe there was some sort of love child situation or something,.

Anyone who is not a conservative, knew that he wasn't. Have you seen the job he has, and the money he makes. PM for PM..

Sure is so quiet here lately, where have all the Conservatives gone?

I know its not much of a race, but actually some interesting news today:
Jason Kenney endorses Erin O'Toole for leadership of Conservative party

          https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/polit...ty/ar-BB10O0kX

I have to wonder if MacKay wins how eager he will be to do much for Kenney. Our Premier seems rather good at insulting and making enemies. Remember his e-mail directed towards former our former Deputy Premier Lucaszuk and of course his comments about the PM's depth of a finger bowl.

                    • Paraphrasing Andrew Sheer "It's up to the rand and file Conservatives to decide if it's OK to be racist"

Conservative leadership candidate under fire for asking whether top pandemic doctor 'works for China'
Scheer refuses to comment on Derek Sloan's words, says it's up to him to explain them

A Conservative leadership candidate is facing an angry backlash after he suggested Canada's chief public health officer is working for China and should be fired for giving bad advice to the government on the COVID-19 crisis.

Derek Sloan, an MP from eastern Ontario who is running to lead his party under the slogan "Conservative - Without Apology," posted a message and video on Facebook and Twitter this week claiming that Dr. Theresa Tam had "failed Canadians."

"Dr. Tam must go! Canada must remain sovereign over decisions. The UN, the WHO, and Chinese Communist propaganda must never again have a say over Canada's public health!" he wrote.

"Does [Tam] work for Canada or for China?" Sloane asks in a tweeted video. He also accused the country's top doctor of parroting lines from the World Health Organization (WHO) after it repeated "misinformation" disseminated by the communist Chinese government.

                      ---

Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer repeatedly refused to denounce or comment on Sloan's remarks.

"I won't be commenting on individual statements or positions that leadership candidates take. That's up for them to explain, and ultimately the members of our party will decide when they vote in a leadership race," he said.

                      • Well, it only took Scheer a week to find his spine, even if it is made of foam rubber.

Funny, this is what he said last week.

"I won't be commenting on individual statements or positions that leadership candidates take. That's up for them to explain, and ultimately the members of our party will decide when they vote in a leadership race,"

Andrew Scheer: Tory MP Derek Sloan Shouldn’t Have Questioned Dr. Theresa Tam’s ‘Loyalty’
But the Tory leader won’t say if there will be any repercussions.

At a press conference in Ottawa Monday, the Tory leader was again pressed about Sloan’s remarks about Dr. Theresa Tam, which other Conservative MPs have called inappropriate and racist.

In an email to supporters and online video released last week, calling for Tam to be fired as Canada’s chief public health officer, Sloan asked if she works “for Canada or China.” Tam, who has been in the role since 2017, was born in Hong Kong.

Sloan criticized her past work with the World Health Organization and accused her of “dutifully” repeating China’s “propaganda” while helping the federal government navigate the COVID-19 pandemic.

Scheer repeatedly refused to comment on the remarks at a press conference last week because Sloan, a rookie MP first elected in the Ontario riding of Hastings-Lennox and Addington last fall, is currently running to replace him as Tory leader. Reporters reminded Scheer at the time that the MP sits as a member of his caucus.

Asked Monday if he thinks Sloan’s comments were racist, Scheer said the Ontario MP does not speak for the wider Conservative team.

                        • Whether on gay marriage, pride, or racism within his caucus, Andrew Scheer has made a fine job of making no one happy by refusing to take an actual stance and just trying to play the middle. He's got terrible political instincts, that's for sure. For all but 10-15% of Canada's population (who are going to vote Conservative no matter what), the Sloan thing was a softball that he could knock out of the park by condemning.

So naturally he bunted. With no one else on base. And he's got a bum knee.

                          • Speaking of not taking a stance. "I'm going to renounce my American citizenship"

                            Weeeelll, maybe not"

Scheer didn't follow through on renouncing U.S. citizenship

Outgoing Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer still holds his U.S. citizenship, after stating during the 2019 federal election campaign that he was in the process of renouncing it.

In an interview on CTV's Question Period with Evan Solomon, Scheer said that after deciding to step down as leader, he halted the process.

"Knowing that I won't be prime minister, I discontinued that process," Scheer said.

                            • Andrew Scheer - "We need to shut down the CERB because there's a very few cases of fraud. And I know a thing or two about fraud"

It’s rather funny seeing Andrew Scheer, who makes $264K annually and lives rent-free, accusing people of abusing CERB considering how much he has charged his own party for private school tuition, clothes for his family, a housekeeper, & a minivan.

                              • Yeah, I guess that some of it at least was true. But it's easier to toss a student under the bus than to fess up.

Tory MP fires student after allegation of theft from O'Toole campaign
Greg McLean's office later confirmed firing was in connection with allegations lobbed by O'Toole campaign

O'Toole claimed that Jamie Lall, a campaign organizer for MacKay in the Calgary region, was involved in the "theft of confidential O'Toole campaign data and strategy."

"Our investigation uncovered that [there] were numerous unauthorized instances where access to our private and security accounts had occurred and where sensitive information owned by the campaign was illegally accessed, downloaded, and seemingly disseminated."

The letter goes on to allege that Lall persuaded a person — whose name is redacted in the letter — to download private video calls and share them with the MacKay campaign. It alleges that Lall met in person with someone — who it does not name or specify is the same person — and at that meeting was given login credentials and passwords by that unnamed person.

Lall has responded to the allegations on Twitter with a short statement: "Not a single word of this is true."
