  • The Silver Skate Festival is Looking for Event Volunteers!!!

The Silver Skate Festival is looking for volunteers to help with the festival which runs from February 12 – 21.The Festivals is a 10-day, family-oriented festival that is held in Edmonton's scenic river valley. Rooted in Dutch winter traditions, the festival combines sport (especially skating), arts and culture, and recreation. Celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2016, the Silver Skate Festival is the longest running winter festival in Edmonton. Over the years, it has grown in leaps and bounds, from a small skating event to a large-scale, winter extravaganza. Last year, more than 85,000 visitors came out to play.

Volunteer on your own, with friends, or as a family. Children age 12-17 may sign up to volunteer on their own. We will place them on appropriate activities for their age and with an older volunteer as needed. Parents are invited to bring their children younger than 12 years with them to learn the joy of volunteering.

We a have a wide wonderful variety of volunteer opportunities available: site preparation, recreation activities, fire monitor, registration/check-in, information/donations, security/parking, race monitor, food/hospitality, site clean up.

The festival is in Hawrelak Park - Edmonton's winter wonderland.

Volunteers are needed mornings, afternoons and evenings from February to 12-21 mostly on the weekends but a few during the week as well. Shifts are generally 4 hours long. You will be given a place to warm up, bathroom and snack breaks as needed. Please note that those wanting to volunteer for site preparation and clean up may be needed the week before or after as well as during the festival.

A Volunteer Orientation will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 7, 2016, in Hawrelak Park. You will have a chance to check out the site, try some of the activities and enjoy food and beverage. There will be an additional orientation opportunity on Friday evening, February 12. If you can't make the orientation, that's ok; you can learn lots about the festival from the website and sitemap.
