  • Riding Stables

Hi there, I just moved to Edmonton at the beginning of this month and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any riding stables around the North West area. I have ridden English (dressage/jumping) my whole life but I think I'd like to try taking some western lessons. I would need a stable with a coach as well as school horses.
Thanks in advance for any help

I board my horse south of Sherwood Park, so I'm not too familiar with barns in your area, but I'll give it my best shot. Horse Sence (I have no idea why the misspelling) is located on Hwy 2 just north of St. Albert. They seem to offer just English lessons, though. Duke Ranches would offer Western lessons. However, they are located close to Beaumont. With AHD, though, it might not be too bad of a drive for you. MP Stables, close to Namao, offers trail rides.

Most other places in that area are competition barns, but would offer dressage and jumping lessons (Maple Leaf, Killerney, Trademark, Amberlea, etc.)

Unfortunately, it is terrible trying to find barns. I've been riding English for four years now (grew up on a farm riding Western), and I still am hearing about barns worth checking out in the Edmonton area.

    Best of luck!

I would NOT recommend Duke Stables at all; took (western) riding lessons there a number of years ago and was NOT impressed with the facilities (dirty) or the way the instructor treated the horses and consequently the riders (disrespectful). Maybe ownership has changed hands since then but I drove by last month and was surprised to see it still there - and in the same shambles.
