  • Rememberance Day 2017, Battle of Passchendaele

This Saturday is Remembrance day and if you'd like to attend a ceremony but not sure where to go, the City of Edmonton once again has a page listing the services:

It's also the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele. In this particularly hellish battle, Edmonton's 49th Battalion took 625 casualties out of only 750 men in a matter of hours. The PPCLI and 49th Battalion casualties are specifically mentioned in one of the latest episode of 'The Great War' on Youtube. The 49th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force, is perpetuated today by the Loyal Edmonton Regiment. The LER cap badge bears a numerical "49" on it to signify this.

The Great War is a fantastic web series for anyone who's interested in the subject matter. It covers the war week by week, 100 years prior and the Canadian contribution is mentioned quite a lot.

Thank you for the timely reminders, appreciated.

A date to remember and ... a place and time to recall.

No quite Nov 11th yet.. But nonetheless, was a bit surprised not to hear a whole lot of talk about June 6th - D Day, this undoubtedly altered the course of the world as we know it
