  • StarMetro Edmonton Launch

Very interesting news. Torstar, owner of Metro Edmonton, and other Metro newspapers, is set to double the number of reporters in the Metro newsrooms and rebrand as StarMetro, with a focus on becoming a local online news portal.

This seems like positive news for local media diversity in Edmonton and the other western cities.

The print media continues its unending march towards complete extinction as TorStar is shuttering all its StarMetro print editions outside of Ontario including the Edmonton one. Unfortunately the media diversity in Alberta hoped for by the thread opener suffers as a result.

Darn, what will I read when I have lunch now? I got some good recipes from reading it.

Meh. Only old fogies read newsprint. The rest of us have social media on our smartphones.

^. Yep, I renewed my Edmonton Journal subscription for one more year, $460. I's not even for me, it's for the wife. She mainly checks out the first few pages, obits, and comics. I'd rather cancel it and just browse the few news sites..
