I could have sworn the Sony store was in that building, but the front facade was modified when Chapters moved in. The Sony store had brick arches where the current exterior wall facing Whyte Ave is, and the door was about 10-15 feet further in. I remember buying both my Walkman and my Dream Machine alarm clock there (still use it daily).

And Whyte jumped the shark when Le Chateau moved in.
I'm not worried about Winners, I'm sure that big company will survive somehow. My concern is that after a few years, they may move to a lower rent nearby location but off whyte location after decimating other retailers on Whyte Ave. Interestingly, it seems from other posts here it was also concern expressed about Chapters when they moved in.

      • Winners better change the layout otherwise the street kids are going to ravage their racks. That place is a loss prevention nightmare.

From their website: “APR14.9% - 46.95%”. So yea, really similar.

              • What an awful addition to the neighbourhood. Very disappointing.

                • Not just an awful addition to the neighborhood, but a huge waste of a prime corner space.

I’m pretty sure Aurora subleased it to them.

                      • Well, there’s zero chance that Holy Roller reopens. They’re being evicted, having owed the landlords (Beljan) over $46,000 in unpaid rent, according to the note on the door.

Now, maybe there’s a chance we see the property divided, and there are front and alley businesses there. Also creates an awkward situation with two related businesses in the same building.
They're going to park their car over there. You're going to park your car over here. Get it?

                          • Someone is finally moving into that space east of Malt & Mortar!

This space is For Lease if anyone wants it.

Now that Chapters is going away, here's a worthy alternative that's been operating for 38 years. Let's keep it open for another 38 years, shall we?

Has Rush Bowls closed up shop? Maybe Gord Lacey knows.

Some constructioning is happening at the former Orange Market!

                            • Wooo, thanks for the photos, SDM!

Rush Bowls and activity at the Orange Market were news to me, and I was just down there yesterday. Could be someone was just taking a look at the space at Orange Market; they did a bunch of work there a few months ago (I think it was removing some of the stuff that was inside). Also, Ripe Tomato must be close to opening. I saw inside about 3 weeks ago and it looked almost done; maybe just waiting on permits for something?

Further East, I saw some environmental drilling and coring trucks appearing at the old Shell station on Whyte and 100 st. Not sure what that means in terms of getting the lot developed, as I'm sure I've seen coring being done on site in the past. I took a look at the Lizotte Real Estate site, and they list the availability of the space as being "immediate," which is funny considering there's no building there at all.

                              • Rush Bowls has indeed closed. Didn't last very long!
There are no Canadian locations left.
