That inconsequential bit of nothing warrants a "visioning workshop"?

Sweet jeebus, talk about wasted resources & backwards priorities.

you would think the capital city downtown plan calling for "improvements to downtown roadways and streetscapes that support safe and comfortable pedestrian movement, sidewalk vibrancy, quality urban design, and more trees and greenery" would be vision enough to do a concept plan but apparently not.

if you're going to do a drive-by at least pay attention to the target. it's a 3:00 to 6:00 drop-in in the edmonton tower lobby.

I'm guessing there's both a workshop this morning & the public drop-in session this afternoon...

                ...right.

I walked away from today a little discouraged at 'us' trying to make every street, everywhere, everything.

Design it with the above principles in mind, get it done in one season, connect Ice District to the Civic Precinct and call it a day. done.

Explore the possibilities and potential of 103 Avenue
                  September 16, 2019

103 Avenue, between 100 Street and 101 Street, is a natural connection that links people to the Civic Precinct, Ice District, the Royal Alberta Museum, Winspear Centre, City Hall, Stanley A. Milner Public Library, office towers, restaurants, hotels and the Valley Line South LRT. The City of Edmonton is exploring ideas to transform this important connection into a green and walkable streetscape.

Join the project team to share your feedback and ideas to develop a vision and options for the 103 Avenue Streetscape Project.

                  Date: Tuesday September 17
                  Time: 3 - 6 p.m. (drop-in)
Location: Edmonton Tower Lobby, 10111 104 Avenue NW

This event will introduce the project, provide background information and seek public input that will be used in the development of a concept design.

so you're saying there will be no lunches at the non-public portion of this engagement? Comeon. If you are going to do a drive-by, at least read into it a bit more.

Wow, so how much time and energy and money is going to be wasted on this info session. Can they not just continue the street and sidewalk look that is one block west next to Edmonton Tower? As for planters, trees, furniture, make it appealing for pedestrians to want to walk from the city hall to Edm tower. With a wider sidewalk maybe places like rose and crown would be able to have a summer patio.
LRT is our future, time to push forward.

I stopped by after work but left after just a couple of minutes. There were no designs at all, not even conceptual.
Admin, I suggest that we close this thread and move all posts to the "Civic Incompetence" thread.

The only thing that needs 'visioning' is what to do with the impark lot on 101 St. and 103A Ave. I don't think we should be beautifying streets that have surface parking lots, as it is exactly what the jerks that own those parking lots want. Those surface parking lot owners made life for Edmontonians miserable for a very long time, it's about time we turned the tables around and made their lives miserable.

that's not actually the case here though is it?

it's not a street full of surface parking lots and it's already a pretty busy pedestrian corridor.

the surface parking lot fronts less that a quarter of its length and the only people who are likely to be more miserable if it's not enhanced are the thousands of taxpayers who walk along it or look at it, not the owner of the parking lot.

25% surface parking lot is still too much. Revera Retirement Living ignores the street. The same goes for the City of Edmonton Assessment review board, Subdivision & Development review board, Community Standards & Licence Appeal committee. (Gee, no wonder why this workshop is happening) City Centre Mall ignores the street except for the MNP Tower entrance. The only building that activates the street is the Main Street rental tower. If the city wants to extend "Oiler Way" then do it the same way it was done in the ice district but I wouldn't go ahead on it until something happens with that parking lot and commitments are made from the Seniors residence and City Centre Mall to activate the street.
