Is this just EIA? I know, for me and my wife, we used to travel to Vancouver Island about 6 times a year - now it's once or twice because of the unholy cabel of Westjet and Air Canada - the rates have gone up by more than 100% in the last six years. And a "good" rate from them is now non-refundable; with luggage, changes, seat selection costing extra fees, and the privilege of boarding last. The whole idea of travelling with them is odious.
