  • So, I Tried the New 'Axe Hole' Place...

I would never have thought to try this, but my work colleagues brought me. I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable it was to throw 1.5 lb axes at big hunks of tree wood.

It was very frustrating at first, because the rotation of the axe head can be so challenging to find. Until I learned the dual trick of 1) don't try to power it, and 2) move either closer or further to/from the target by approximately 0.8 meters. Once I relaxed and changed my throwing distance, all my throws started to consistently stick, and even stick in the bullseye.

They charge $40 for an adult to get 2 hours of lane time, all you can throw. Kids and students get a discount.

I definitely recommend this if you are looking for a novel thing to do on a Thursday night or Saturday afternoon with 3 friends in Edmonton. Maybe even ask your boss to take the whole staff for a corporate afternoon event.

Excellent. This is an important life skill that everyone should learn and as part of maintaining your Canadian citizenship.

Makes a shooting range boring. Axe throwing takes quite a skill.

Two hours seems like an awfully long time to be throwing axes, no?

Hmmmm.... Your boss and his staff in a caged room with many heavy & sharp objects.
Is there a bar at this place too?

I would tend to agree. But, if it's what you like, it's what you like, I guess. Personally, I can't do two minutes of darts.

I'm interested in going, but can't really wrap my head around 2hrs of it.

2 hours is about right. One hour practice on wood targets. One hour of paintball style rapid fire hatchet throwing with live targets.

Hatchet Hole just doesn't have the same ring.

edit: Actually, after thinking about it...

$80 for a date night? No thanks. Way overpriced. $10/hr per person is reasonable for entertainment such as this.
