  • C2E’s “Uniquely Edmonton” Photo Contest Overview

We challenge you to capture a moment in the life of a resident of Greater Edmonton. What makes our region unique?

Submit your favorite photo and your picture could be selected as a finalist and posted on Connect2Edmonton, or randomly chosen to win a cool monthly prize! At the end of the contest, if your image is voted as #1, you'll win our Grand Prize! Or, if you know someone is always out and about with their camera snapping photos, send this information to them encouraging them to submit a photo. Either way, the more great photos we have to promote Edmonton, the better!

From August 3/08 to October 31/08, go to Connect2Edmonton to upload your image to one of the following 10 categories:

Abstract & Object Oriented : Photos taken in and around Edmonton that capture a unique perspective. Could be a close-up shot of an interesting pattern on one of our buildings, cool signage (NO graffiti pics, please) or a photo taken of an object that personifies "Edmonton".

Buildings & Architecture: Photos of buildings, streetscapes and architectural details around Edmonton; Whyte Avenue, Jasper Avenue, Old Glenora, Highlands, the Butterdome, LeMarchand Mansion, Terwilliger Towne, etc. Need we say more?

City Attractions: Photos include some of the following major attractions in and around Edmonton - Capital Ex, Edmonton Indy, Fort Edmonton Park, Art Gallery of Alberta, Valley Zoo, [closed for repairs], River Valley Queen, Devonian Gardens, Elk Island Park, etc. Attractions people should take in when visiting our fine City.

Downtown Cityscapes: Photos that are predominately focused on our downtown skyline at night, during the day, at dusk etc. We are also interested in pictures of downtown that are not commonly taken (again, a unique perspective).

Festivals: Edmonton – Canada’s Festival City - boasts tons of parties and festivals throughout the summer; this includes Heritage Festival, Folk Festival, Fringe, Street Performers etc. We want to see photos promoting the “experience” of these festivals.

In the Neighborhood: We'd love to see your friends and family enjoying life in the 'burbs - in the backyard, at a block party, at a friends BBQ, or just having fun at the neighborhood park. (Parents, please use caution when submitting close-ups photos of children in swimsuits for obvious reasons.)

River Valley, Parks & Landscapes: Scenes of our river valley and all the many great parks and trails in and around our city. People enjoying activities in the river valley, such as biking, jogging, roller blading, picnicing etc. This category also includes scenery, the skyline or landscape images. (The pictures in this category generally do not include close-ups of people.)

Sports & Recreation: Indoor and outdoor activities that are more action oriented; team sports etc. Or, enjoying a Cracker Cat baseball game, Dragon Boat racing, canoeing on the river, playing sports in a community league (no group shots, please) or your team in action with a local sports club, like volleyball, badminton, etc.

Urban Life: Photos that emulate urban living; grabbing a coffee Saturday morning on Whyte Avenue or local coffee shop, having a drink at a local pub or patio, shopping at WEM or in one of our many quaint local shops, or enjoying Edmonton's nightlife. This category of photos captures the urban life of an Edmontonian.

Work Life: Industry, business and on-the-job related photos; could include anything from oil refineries at sunset, the majesty of big business buildings like Manulife, a photo of you in your suit on the way into an office tower, a friend on the weekend pumping gas, you washing your car or getting your hands dirty at a nearby greenhouse. Where do you work? What do you do?

We want to see all the energy, activity and 'life' that this region has to offer. Send in your photos now! >>

Note: We are looking for photos taken within the following timeline – September 1/07 to October 31/08.

Deadline Extension: Please note, that due to partner advertising commitments, this photo contest will continue to run until October 31, 2008. Please take advantage of this extended deadline (and the warm fall weather we have been having) for additional outdoor photo opportunities!

In the third week of November, watch for the finalists in each category to be posted on Connect2Edmonton where you can vote for your favorite in each category. The photo with the most votes will be named our Grand Prize winner!

Show the world why Edmonton is unique!
