  • Give 109th Street a name

Right now we have two major destinations/attractions that sit nearby each other: Jasper Avenue and Whyte Avenue. 109 Street is the prime, through severely below potential, retail strip connecting the two.

That said, I’ve long felt that there is a potential to build synergy out of better linking these two destinations. Focusing on 109th street to encourage more retail and more attractive retail development between the two could increase the attractiveness of spending much more time Downtown-and-Whyte.

So maybe naming this bridging street could be a very small step towards tying the two together. You’d then have three connected destinations, Jasper Ave., Whyte and ___?___.

Any good ideas that roll off the tongue to create a synergistic feel?

with apologies to the small mall, we could call it "high street".

at the same time we could reverse the walterdale and high level bridge couplet so we enter downtown top of bank to top of bank. change the direction of a short stretch of saskatchewan drive and eliminate that silly hairpin turn at the same time. add some "grand medians" on the south side and redo those on the north side and we have a high street north and a high street south connected by a signature bridge...

109 has such diverse zoning and density, not sure a name works for it's entire length.

Sort of with Medwards, what's wrong with 109 Street?

I actually really like just calling it "one oh nine". If any street was going to be renamed, I'd vote 124th to be officially called Edward St.

A noble idea, however if we do that we would have to create a numbering system for all the other 'Pothole Way's in Edmonton. It only took them 6 months to fill the one on our street. Our neighbours started to call it the Don Iveson Memorial pothole.

even uhmurrikans spell capital with an "a" unless referring specifically to a building that houses a legislative branch of government. as such, it would be correct for them to say their capitol building is located in their nation's capital.
