Disappointing, but perhaps a superior location can be found.

Rossdale could be worth looking at as it's already developed. Don't want a commercial development to be out into parkland, particularly in the valley

There’s already a fair bit of residential, commercial, industrial and institutional development. Today, even Ft Edmonton Park, Muttart etc might not be considered appropriate river valley developments by many people.

Locating it near the zoo and Laurier Park might be an interesting alternative location. There’s huge areas there that could be used plus easy access from the other side of the river.

So, since there's already development in some areas, that means we should simply allow more?

Rossdale is developed and looking for something to kickstart development.

Perhaps if a bike path was the only way to get there the CoE would agree on location ...

EDMONTON -- After plans for a Nordic spa next to Fort Edmonton park were abruptly cancelled, the group pushing to make it happen says it plans to seek out another location.

Hank Van Weelden, managing partner for the Edmonton Nordic Spa Group, says the group is speaking with a land broker and taking a closer look at zoning issues.

The spa was cancelled after Fort Edmonton Management Co. and Edmonton Nordic Spa group dissolved their partnership three days before the project was slated to be discussed at a public hearing.

Van Weelden said as far as a new location goes, the group is open to public or private land being involved, and it could be outside of the River Valley.

"We certainly want to get it built as soon as possible, the ownership group maintains full support for a spa in Edmonton and we're excited to see which piece of property comes out in front," he told CTV News Edmonton.

Discussions first began on the spa in May 2018. The group initially said it would cost $20 million and open by fall 2020.

I would love to see this end up in Government House Park or Hawrelak Park.

If a superior location can be found, you’d have to wonder about a management who’s first choice was an inferior location. However, maybe they felt that dealing with the Ft. Edmonton board would lead to success whereas dealing with City Council would not.

Fort Edmonton was always a crap location for this and not in any way fitting the park. If Nordic spas here had any lineage here than maybe. But what does this endeavor have to do with a historical park?

Further this is an inconvenient location serviced by one in out road and one of the worst locations to get to.

Parking lot already fills and the road backs up on busier days. We need MORE infrastructure there in that one road dead end??

Yeah, it never made sense to me but it’s not my business. Maybe it was proximity to WEM, the Zoo, Ft Ed., a nearby hotel, etc for tourism access and/or access to some similar demographic, activity planning thing or something.

Maybe putting it near downtown increases other costs including security and liabilities related to the young, drunk and stupid or some such thing.

Though the hostility towards river valley hospitality and non-natural entertainment such as the Mayfair Golf Course sure is indicative of major consultation and approval battles for anything in the valley.

Maybe it could go in amongst the solar panels of the new power plant the EPCOR wants to build. Could piggyback on their development and create something weird and unusual. Say the appeal of fresh natural fallen snow fed waters off the panels.

Call it a crystal sky water fed spa or some such BS branding. At the Nordic Eco Pure Solar Spa.

We can fly tens or hundreds of thousands of the world’s environmentalists to spa in the middle of a solar “farm”!

Then hop a ride on the gondola to ???? (Give me some green ideas guys)

Free electric car charging while we soak you!

                          Im back! Got it! ...

Then hop a ride on the gondola to the downtown bike and e-scooter network then ride to our new green city within a city Blatchford...!

^Theres huge empty fields within Blatchford development replete with Geothermal heated water. Maybe put it there. May as well put something there.
