    • Trump predicts that the US will have thousands of suicides if businesses stay closed and people are unemployed.

Trump also wants packed churches by Easter and businesses back to work.

The reality is that the President has not closed a single church, business or school. Not a single one. Closures are controlled by State Governors as are openings, not the President.

Trump cannot order any non-federal institution, business or school to reopen or workers back.

Trump is talking through his MAGA hat.

Donald, maybe you should allow real leaders and experts to coordinate the epidemic response and go back to the White House to plan the easter egg hunt on the WH lawn.

      • OK, you first Brit

Fox's Brit Hume says it’s an “entirely reasonable viewpoint” to expect that grandparents would be willing to die to protect the economy

        • It's insane, how are none of the right-wing pundits and stable geniuses not realizing that upwards of 50% of their population getting sick will have terrible impacts on their economy as well, possibly even worse than a shutdown?

          • They have their tax havens, vaults fill of cash and gold, expensive homes, walled communities, private jets, private hospitals and enough guns to arm a platoon.

Do they care about any of you? Not in the least.

There is definitely an air of desperation in his tone. His most profitable properties have had to close down. Some speculate he will go bankrupt because of recession and how much leverage is involved in maintaining his empire of sand.

It's because your average rich American conservative see people as a tool to be used and then discarded. If you nreak on, there's lots more in the tool chest.

And your average poor Republican has bought into the whole "Anyone can be a millionaire if they work hard enough" and "Socialism is bad so I should go without healthcare" mindset that's trickled down on them from above.

His press conferences are dry, robotic and unempathetic in tone. Gone are his rabble-rousing rants at his rallies that fueled his narcissistic ego. Not only may he go bankrupt as his properties bring in no income, even he realizes that he could lose the election which would bring a slew of lawsuits and investigations as the WH files are opened and staff are no longer scared of his threats. His whole enterprise, his associates, political allies and family are caught in this vortex. I never thought that he would last 100 days but I underestimated the depths of unethical and unlawful behaviour that his sycophants and enablers would go to prop up his regime.

When dicktators go down, they go down hard.

BTW, I like how even his medical experts poorly demonstrate social distancing, standing shoulder to shoulder on stage.

Why couldn't the press conferences be done in a larger room or out on the WH lawn? How about setting an example to others?

it was never - and still isn't - about "containment of the virus". it has always been - and continues to be - about not overwhelming our health system and ability to provide care.

at the end of the day, regardless of the approach taken, it's pretty much a certainty that the vast majority of the world's population will contract covid-19. the question is less about the individual's responses and consequences to that and more about the ability of society as a whole to address those responses and consequences as broadly as possible until there is an effective vaccine and/or an effective cure.

                          • With 1/10th the population, we have 1/20th the cases and our death rate is a rounding error compared to Trumpistan

Where have you been? That point was passed weeks ago. Anticipating the thrust of your posts, that still doesn't mean we should fling everything open and just let the virus do it's thing as some in the US are suggesting. It's still possible to slow the spread and prevent our health care systems from collapsing, resulting in untold death and damage to our society and economy.

This isn't a hard concept to understand if you don't solely marinate in right-wing media.

                              • ^^ hope this continues to be true but only time will tell. Our cases have jumped to ~500 a day a week after social distancing /flexible lockdown measures were put in place. In a week we'll see how effective the initial effort was.
