The Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club has enjoyed a remarkable history during 31 years in the National Hockey League, and Patrick LaForge has been a major contributing force, leading and creating much of the Oilers excitement since joining the team as President and CEO in July of 2000.

He brought to the Oilers decades of experience with leading sports and entertainment organizations in the areas of professional and major junior hockey, alpine ski racing, auto racing, horse racing and professional rodeo and his tenure with the team has seen many significant highlights.

Born in Lac la Biche, Alberta and raised in Edmonton, Patrick enjoyed a lengthy business career prior to joining the Oilers. He held the positions of Vice President International Marketing, Molson Breweries of Canada, President and CEO of Alpine Canada and served on the Executive Board of the Canadian Olympic Committee.

Patrick initiated the idea, was the creative force and stewarded The Heritage Classic, the first regular season outdoor NHL game, played on November 22, 2003. More than 57,000 hockey fans braved the bone chilling elements in Edmonton that day to watch the Montreal Canadiens play the Edmonton Oilers. The game was preceded by the greatest NHL Alumni Game which featured Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Guy LaFleur and Larry
Robinson joining other Oilers and Canadiens Hockey Hall of Fame members and alumni at Commonwealth Stadium. The Heritage Classic event on that day spawned the NHL Winter Classic which has evolved as hockey’s greatest one day spectacle.

His time as Oilers President and CEO has seen the launch of the first public lottery for an NHL Canadian team and the creation and growth of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, which since its inception in 2001 has annually gifted over 1-million dollars to needy charities in Oil Country. He brought the American Hockey League Edmonton Road Runners to Edmonton for the 2004-05 season and following that secured the return of one of the most famous names in Canadian Junior hockey to Edmonton when the Western Hockey League Edmonton Oil Kings returned to the Alberta Capital in 2007.

The successful return of the Oil Kings was followed in 2009 by the Oilers purchase of the Edmonton Capitals Baseball team (Golden Baseball League) and the rejuvenation of Edmonton’s river valley baseball park by the Oilers organization for Capitals baseball and the staging of live concerts at TELUS field.

As President and CEO Patrick LaForge is responsible for growing the financial viability of the Oilers, Oil Kings and Capitals and building quality relationships with their fans, sponsors and customers. He is equally as proud of the fact that the Edmonton Oilers Commercial Operation team has rallied fan support in the Oil Country region resulting in 155 consecutive sellouts as the 2009-10 Oilers NHL season begins.

He is currently an Alternate Governor for the Oilers, and a Governor and member of the Executive Committee of the Western Hockey League, and Governor of the Golden Baseball League. Patrick is Past Chairman of the Board, Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is also on the Advisory Board of the Edmonton Amateur Sports Council and is a Rotarian. He was selected as Top 50 most influential Person in Alberta 2008 by Alberta Venture Magazine and was also the recipient of the Consumer Choice Award as Edmonton Business Person of the year, 2008.

Patrick LaForge is a graduate of the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), attended the University of Western Ontario, School of Business and completed the Executive Management Program at the University of Michigan.
