  • Quebec City to bid for Winter Olympics

    http://www.cbc.ca/sports/amateur/sto...ebec-city.html

According to a report published Saturday in Quebec City newspaper Le Soleil, the provincial capital will likely select Claude Rousseau, president of the Quebec Remparts junior hockey team, as head of Team Quebec, a group charged with bringing major infrastructure investments to the region to make it a more attractive bid city for the 2022 or 2026 Winter Games.

Rousseau declined comment to Le Soleil.

The premier's office issued a release to local media on Friday, inviting them to an announcement ceremony Monday morning relating to Quebec City.
The provincial capital was unsuccessful in its attempts to land the 2002 and 2010 Games.
I thought I'd bring it up in this forum because:
    - QC has many parallels to Edmonton
    - note the Quebec provincial government support for QC's Olympic bids, while Alberta's provincial government has not been as enthusiastic about Edmonton's Expo bid
    - I can't help but wonder if the feds can fund both another Canadian Winter Olympics and an Expo
“You have to dream big. If we want to be a little city, we dream small. If we want to be a big city, we dream big, and this is a big idea.” - Mayor Stephen Mandel, 02/22/2012

They don't have to worry about funding until somebody actually wins. The odds of Quebec winning winter olympics are pretty slim right now, given that Vancouver is about to host it. Think, gap from Calgary, is when Canada will probably get it again (i.e. in about 20 years time, so around 2030). In a way Quebec is going about it the right way though - build up the infrastructure over a period of time (although if they build an arena tommorow, it will be quite old by 2030).

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, but they have it in 2014.
