Plans by Strathcona County to add between 1,500 and 3,000 people to Ardrossan, a hamlet of 382 people, will be voted on next month by the Capital Region Board.

But the proposal is already facing some opposition.

Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel said he will not support the proposal until the board has hammered out a regional plan, due to be completed next spring.

"We thought it was a valid request because Ardrossan is identified as a growth hamlet," said Strathcona County Mayor Cathy Oleson
