    Default HOV Lanes in Edmonton

I think with talk of the 87 Avenue Bridge and Bus Rapid Transit, I thought Id dedicate this thread to possible HOV lanes for Edmonton.

They already exist in Edmonton. 97th street and 109th street are prime examples

^ Those arent HOV lanes, those are bus and taxi only lanes (and the occasional entitled driver congestion bypass lane) and usually only during rush hour.

HOV lanes usually mean vehicles with 2+ people are allowed to use the lane.

I don't really see the need, currently. Perhaps in 25-40 years the QEII in the urban areas?

^^ so, just add the HOV symbol to the signage. No studies, no expensive consultants, no expensive redesign.

Add a sticker or attach a small additional sign with the HOV symbols

I think HOV lanes on Whyte Avenue from Mill Creek to 112 Street would work.

Only if you remove all the parking on the route.

Every business owner will be happy with that, not?

I'm sure the sidewalk traffic is much greater.

If you want HOV lanes, place them on high-volume highways such as Henday, QEII and Hwy 16.

The rest of this thread is just nonsensical babble, especially from The Cat.

^ Me too. I think that Edmonton would do well to have HOV Lanes. This would be a more practical use for a bridge at 87 Avenue.

Because it's a major 6-10 lane highway that cuts through the center of the city. Edmonton doesn't really have an equivalent. Maybe the Yellowhead it would make sense once the rest of the intersections are removed. It's not really on option on the Whitemud, given the idiotic configuration of Terwillegar's exit/entries. And until the Henday is three lanes all the way around, it's not really an option there either.

Edmonton simply doesn't have many 3+ lane in one direction roads where HOV lanes would make much of any sense.

Not a HOV lane but a better choice is controlling trucks rather than allowing them to slow down all 3 lanes, especially on YH.

Yellowhead and other highways should be controlled like they do in Europe.

All truck traffic is limited to the right lane ONLY and tightly controlled speed limits.

Once they eliminate all lights on the yellowhead this would make sense, or any three lane (or more) full freeway in Edmonton where there are no exits from the left side
