Default edmonton 2019 'missing middle' infill design competition public voting

"Twenty-five of the 30 competition submissions received from across Canada and as far away as London, UK have passed technical committee review for eligibility requirements and been short-listed for voting."

and yes, there is one in particular i am partial to.

I like how by now most of these look normal to me and I've seen lots in person in N. America. Gives me hope.

Entry #18 should be disqualified due to incomplete work. Entry #40 is completely unreadable due a low resolution jpeg image used. The images on a number of entries have too low resolutions to be readable, those images need to be replaced with identical versions in a higher resolution.

Its 2019 and I still see low resolution images being used in presentations, this is extremely frustrating for me to see as a graphic designer. I cannot stress how important it is to use images with proper resolutions and to display your information in a manner that is easily understandable to the people who are deciding on which project should get the green light.

Having said that, there are some very interesting concepts presented! May the best one win.

18 - incomplete or incongruent with others?

40 - minimalist in every way

thanks but the real prize is the right to buy the site and do your project. any prize money - including this $500 - was aways committed to the consulting team members.

even if we're not successful here, we believe in the concept and are already looking at some other sites where it may be applicable.

Good luck to you, Ken! You've got some tough competition by the looks of it. Thanks for sharing

    thanks...

as much as it was held on this site, the competition was meant to elicit designs that were not site specific but could be replicated anywhere in the city. hopefully we'll see the strong designs elsewhere even if they all can't be built here.

and hopefully the city's zoning bylaw review will result in some changes that will make it easier for that to happen. some of us joke that the reason there is a missing middle in the first place is that you can't actually get permits and approvals to build it.
