    Arena?

I wonder if a future generation paying for debt will wonder if we chronically exceeded facility expenditures in this era.

Nice and remote for the "enhanced" interrogation techniques like Sgt. Kevin Douglas was vidoetaped giving to a prisoner in 2012.

If this is what is on 127th Street way North across from the Remand Centre .... I drove by today. Gold tinted windows - massive amounts of curtain walls of gold tint that shimmer. This is a VERY nice looking building,

Lets build more jails like this too. they should all be really nice.

Maybe busbarns should also be state of the art world class now. Or Garbage dumps.

Everything needs to look like its shiny cladding wizard of oz in here. Man, if this exterior treatment goes out of style in a year or two.

Lets just remember every dime spent on something like this isn't spend on direct policing and extra constables.

I doubt the gold castle will gain them more respect.

    Honest question.

Will all the sprawl rhetoric that the City of Edmonton likes to use regularly now, is there any particular reason this isn't a multi-story building that would have a smaller footprint? I could fathom why the training facilities may need to be that way, but this seems like just as much of a land-pig as the new schools being build that are giant 1-story building.

Edmonton will be sprawling right out to EIA, Devon, and Beaumont as of Jan 1. Itís never gonna end no matter what anyone says.

I have been away. Has the Province formally accepted this and issued what ever approval is required for ALL of the annexations? Was the Beaumont squabble resolved? Edit: No announcement by the Province yet. https://www.edmonton.ca/projects_pla...-edmonton.aspx

Would not think so, they need an airport to take off and land.

The old helicopters needed a horizontal run. This is from 2013.

Last spring, Chief Rod Knecht said the site of a proposed police station and training facility in the northwest would be a consideration for the base, but there would be zoning issues and police would have to go with a different helicopter model since the current one requires a period of horizontal take off. Construction of the facility was supposed to start this year, but the city has yet to secure the land.

    And from 2014

Police want to sell one helicopter next year and replace it with a twin-engine chopper that can fly higher and faster. They also want to establish a heliport location within Edmonton city limits by 2019.

Twin-engine helicopters are powerful enough to lift off from a heliport; the single-engine choppers need the space offered by a runway to get in the air.

Wish the glass was more like the renderings. Too gold. Reminds me of the helmet from the HALO video game.

I agree, clear glazing would have looked much cleaner. Although there is something about the gold that I like for some reason.

It looks like a Rec centre, only evil.
    There can only be one.

    Wow!

Edmonton needs to work with this architect alot more.

The clear glazing would've looked nice too, but I like this because it's unique. Also, based on the heavy bollards and boulders place all around the building I'm wondering if the one way windows were chosen for security reasons.

Did Donald Trump get involved in this? The gold makes the building look worse, and gives the Police a negative image.
    Edmonton first, everything else second.

Absolutely love the gold. Dunno what it is, just different and it works.

I am disappointed that they're going for the corrugated steel look, though. It's really not my thing.
Edmonton is a very exciting place to be right now.
