^ there's definitely an "AB" in that somewhat short list.

(Also spotted BC, ON, and QC.)

That makes what, the first rock event?
    Let's make Edmonton better.

Finally a rock event, but sadly a band I just cannot get into.

heh, agreed. I initially liked Coldplay but then they increasingly became kind of a play for the pops band. Liked some of their earlier catalog more. That said a legit big rock act to hit Rogers. Kind of a long ways off though being one year from now. Hopefully see more Rock acts signed before that.

Kaleo is opening for the Lumineers. I would consider most of their music rock. I guess they aren't headlining though.

    Looking forward to Coldplay myself.

Muse skipped Edmonton on their Drones tour. That's something I would have loved to see at Rogers.

The Lumineers announce ticket information for their Edmonton show

    SANDRA SPEROUNES

    Ho hey!

Tickets to the folk-pop band’s March 31 show at Rogers Place will go on sale Oct. 28 at Ticketmaster.ca. Prices range from $39.50 to $74.50 plus service charges.

(Fan club and VIP presales start Oct. 24.)

The Lumineers were one of the stars of this year’s Sonic Boom festival. The Colorado musicians released their second album, Cleopatra, this year.

They’ll be joined by Kaleo, Folk Fest faves (and Iceland’s latest sensations), and SUSTO, a folk-rock group from South Carolina.

    Hey ho!

They really seem to be missing out on some touring concert bookings at Rogers. Not sure what the problem is.

    So far as I see it we're missing (acts that are touring NA);

    Red Hot Chili Peppers

    Muse

Stevie Nicks/ Pretenders (like it or not a damn good co tour that's hitting all major markets)

    Elton John

Kings of Leon/Deerhunter (a killer tour with two solid acts)

Sigur ros (would be great to ever see them here, one of the most mesmerizing acts and that have a fantastic live touring production.)

Also Nick Cave and the Bad seeds not playing in Edmonton.

Kind of sad that we have Rogers and it doesn't really seem to be opening us up for any bigger acts coming here and we're still being passed on tour schedule.

That said we do seem to be getting a lot of selective pop tart acts like Kanye, Drake, Bruno Mars so I'm not sure if this is even a matter of whoever is booking these is missing out that Edmonton is a strong Rock/Alternative market.

As far as I'm aware Muse has completed their tour, so they wouldn't have played at Rogers if they had come around. I'm rather saddened that I couldn't experience Drones live. Bellamy & Co. just keep cranking out incredible albums one after the other.

That's quite surprising, they're basically leaving money on the table in bypassing Edmonton.

Another act that missed Edmonton was K D Lang, Neko Case and Laura Veirs. They played a folk festival in Grand Prairie in August but could have easily filled the Jube in Edmonton.

Yeah, I wanted to see the Neko Case/K D Lang show as well.

I agree acts that are not coming here are leaving money on the table. Its a bit odd as no market supports acts better than this. Makes me think that the Rogers contacts are not getting the word out enough, or are connected with all channels. Curiously a lot of the acts that formerly played Rexall are not ending up in the new arena. Aside from Roger Waters.

Could also blame it on the acts management as well. Some are seemingly less informed than they should be at best bookings. Why not book the City that brings some of the peak concert revenues consistently?

Haha, somebody reading the thread? That concert wasn't listed anywhere as recently as yesterday. Even though the tour had been booked quite awhile ago.

Put your Christmas concert wish out everybody. Maybe acts come here if you mention it...

Sonic was blabbing all weekend about a major concert announcement this morning. I'll assume this was it.

That or their private show with Mother Mother that they started giving away tickets for. I think it's in early December.

Mother mother was announced last week. RHCP this morning.

I'll be avoiding Sonic for the next while as I greatly dislike both those bands and they will definitely be in even higher rotation until their respective shows.

From both artist's entire collections, I like entirely one song from Mother Mother and two from RHCP, and one of those was a cover. Both are talented though, glad we're getting them.

If I could pick one ticket for a concert it would be for Garth Brooks. Apparently he has no concert scheduled for the following evening so they are speculating he there may be two concerts. That would not surprise me at all.

Guns N Roses announce Edmonton tour stop this summer

The hair metal legends will be playing Commonwealth Stadium on Aug. 30.

    GETTY IMAGES
Guns N Roses, featuring a broken Axl Rose in his concert throne, perform at the 2016 Coachella Music Festival. The reunited hair metal legends have extended their Not In This Lifetime Tour into 2017, including several Canadian stops.

By: Andrew Fifield Metro Published on Mon Dec 05 2016
Don't cry if you missed the recently reunited Guns N Roses on their Not In This Lifetime Tour, because the hair metal legends are heading back out on the road with a stop in Edmonton.

The Gunners will be playing Commonwealth Stadium on August 30.

The band’s new dates are a sequel of sorts to a massively successful North American summer tour that racked up more than $116M in ticket sales.

The new tour kicks off at Dublin’s Slane Castle on May 27 before taking the band through Europe into the summer. The North American leg opens up in St. Louis on July 27 before wrapping up in San Antonio on Sept. 8.

The other Canadian dates are Montreal on Aug. 19, Ottawa on Aug 21, Winnipeg on Aug. 24, Regina on Aug. 27, and Vancouver on Sept. 1.

Tickets for Canadian dates go on sale Friday, Dec. 9.

    Hopefully they play Rocket Queen.

Tried to buy tickets from 10-11 am on multiple devices, no luck, TM are shysters. Ended up buying DRL tickets on Stub Hub for twice the price, not cool TM!!!

I got great seats for GnR this morning. It is not selling as quickly as I thought. I did a test search 10 minutes ago and good floor seats were still available, they may have overpriced the tickets.

Spent a pile of time trying to buy GNR tix yesterday and for most of the morning to mid-afternoon, TM simply wouldn't work, and then when it did there were no tix available.

Philosopher Kings reuniting for new material and a tour. Will be in Edmonton on March 3 at Century Casino.

Will definitely be there. Their live stuff is great. Their One Night Stand concert CD is still a regular player almost 20yrs later for me.

The were saying on the Garner Andrews' Show that it was a record sellout of five shows with 51,000 (+/-) tickets in an hour or something like that. It struck me as odd at how few tickets they said were sold for that many shows.

That's the amount sold at that time. Others, a significant number are usually presales, fan club sales etc. When you factor in that attendance given the stage configuration of this show is something like 14-15K per show then that's a ticket total of 70-75K. 51K out of that is actually a greater than usual amount of released tickets.

Its the way the concert industry is now. For some shows half the tickets or more are gone before general public sales.

This is going to make the bot-scalpers pretty rich, so much demand and still a couple people I know couldn't get tickets because they were gone by 10am.

How will the bot-scalpers work around the non-transferrable policy and the need to present the purchasing credit card at entrance?

Garth Brooks to play nine shows in Edmonton

The same day tickets went on sale for a sixth concert date for Garth Brooks, officials announced an additional three dates.

On Thursday, December 15 at 10 a.m., tickets were set to go on sale for Brooks’ sixth show in Edmonton, scheduled for Saturday, February 25 at 7 p.m.

Before tickets were made available, the promoter announced another show had been added for February 24 at 7 p.m.

Tickets for five Garth Brooks shows sold fast, but ‘special announcement’ coming

Once tickets went on sale, another two shows were added: February 25 at 3 p.m. and Thursday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m.

Now, Brooks, along with his wife Trisha Yearwood, will perform at Rogers Place on the following dates:
    Friday, February 17 (7:30 p.m.)
    Saturday, February 18 (3 p.m.)
    Saturday, February 18 (7 p.m.)
    Sunday, February 19 (3 p.m.)
    Sunday, February 19 (7 p.m.)
    Thursday, February 23 (7:30 p.m.)
    Friday, February 24 (7 p.m.)
    Saturday, February 25 (3 p.m.)
    Saturday, February 25 at (7 p.m.)

As of late Thursday morning, officials had not yet released updated ticket sale numbers, but on December 9, the promoter said sales for the first five shows had broken Brooks’ ticket sales record for Edmonton that was set in August, 1996 at Northlands Coliseum.

In 1996, 50,871 tickets were sold. On Friday, December 9, officials said ticket sales had surpassed 51,000.

On Thursday just after 11 a.m., promoters said more than 115,000 tickets had been sold in Edmonton.

According to the promoter, no more dates will be added.

9 shows. That's unreal. The scheduling is almost like one of those off broadway musicals they do at the Jube.
How many other stops on his tour are getting 8 or more shows?

it said there were 2 other cities that broke records. Those finished with 11 shows. Cant recall if it was this tour or previous ones.

Going to be amazing for downtown restaurants and such but I'm glad I'm out of town for most of those days.

I checked a few days ago, and I think the highest I saw any other city get was 4 shows, in smaller arenas.

Unreal seems like a fair assessment.

I saw a few tweets, and there are some people coming substantial distances for this.

^ I'm happy enough with the one being built in ICE District for now.

^^ I recall at a point the Katz Group saying they wanted something Vegasesque, and I agree:

    • 9 shows in a row by a superstar
    • people coming from across the country
    • a "something for everyone" shopping and entertainment district (under construction)

    does seem to hit that.

Garth Brooks is a superstar? 1990 just called, they want their popstar back.

9 shows is more indicative of Edmonton just being a mark for this nature of entertainer and they may as well make some coin here in a market that still has money left in pockets vs trying to fill arenas in Peoria.

If anything the first 100 days of a new arena kind of exhibits how vacant pop music is today and why its been a dying industry.

^Yes, Garth Brooks is a superstar. I know a couple of people who are not Country and Western fans and yet they like Garth Brooks' music. He puts on a great concert and really engages the audience. I am not remotely surprised he has attracted so many people to his Alberta concert(s). People will come from out of town and put some serious coin down as Brooks causes a buzz like no other.

He's regularly one of the top earning artists in the world. I say that makes him a superstar. It's not my thing but it definitely sells.

Actually, there's a thriving "Anti-Nashville" (which crosses into Texas Country music subgenre) sound and many still call Nashville home. Steve Earle might be one of the more popular names, also includes the likes of Buddy Miller, his wife Julie Miller, Lucinda Williams, Hank Williams III, Cross Canadian Ragweed and many many others.

This is the real country of today, not the Shania Twain twang-pop that you mentioned. But I guess that's for another thread. Oh, and the first and only country cassette and pretty much CD I ever owned (until the last 10 years) was Trisha Yearwood's 1991 debut.

There's lots of non-pop country, but it doesn't get commercial airplay anymore. I get my fill for the week from Wide-Cut Country on CKUA Saturdays 10-noon, 94.9 FM in Edmonton, ckua.com to stream.

Garth is the country version of AC/DC and Nickelback. Highly successful, polished music developed via formula.

Whatever kind of musician he is, it's the number of devoted fans that makes him a superstar. Not exactly my cup of tea, I think, either, but when I see someone selling out five shows in Cincinati, and four shows in Memphis, and 9 shows in Edmonton etc, that's where I set my opinions aside and let the facts speak for themselves.

Yeah I don't follow country music much. I thought he retired in the 90's. Really I don't think I know one Garth Brooks song. Or any Garth Brooks fans.

Seriously the only time I knew anybody that played Garth Brooks tunes was in the 90's.

Tried listening to a few tunes just for the hell of it but I really don't get the crossover appeal. To me it sounds very country. Doesn't hook me in at all. Given his voice all his songs sound the same to me.

Sells out 9 concerts here and most of you guys on here don't know much about him or his songs. And who is it that's out of the loop? I myself know most of his songs and they are great, especially when seeing the videos with the music. I know a lot about his personal life as well. He's from the Yukon originally.....Yukon, Oklahoma. (born in Tulsa)

Not a fan of Garth, but everyone should be able to appreciate The Thunder Rolls, whether genuinely or ironically. He's kind of like Bon Jovi, in that way. Some people genuinely like them and think they're great artists, while others think they're kind of a joke but fun enough to sing along with just the same.

Having nine concerts to do that would be a pretty tough gig to pull off but who knows. He's got his wife with him so maybe he'd stick around, hard to say. Doubt it tho.

2017 shaping up nicely for me: tix purchased for GNR, Big Wreck, and I Love the 90's. Still haven't been to Rogers and none of these are going there. Get some rock and roll in there, will ya OEG?

Blackie and the Rodeo Kings (Stephen Fearing, Colin Linden, and Tom Wilson) are playing the Winspear on March 9th. They're touring their new album "Kings and Kings". Got a preview when they played Sherwood Park a couple of months back. It'll be a great show as they'll be bringing guests from the album along as they did on their Kings and Queens tour.

I haven't listened to Tom Wilson since Junkhouse, which I loved. Can you recommend some choice tracks from his newer material (Blackie; Lee Harvey) that I should check out?

I saw them in '92 for the Black tour and again in '96 for Load. I haven't much cared for anything they've made since then, though the new album is easily the best effort yet.
