    Default Make It Awkward

Hats off to Jesse Lipscombe for keeping his composure:

There have been a couple of racial incidents in this city that have not been to pleasant to hear about. Do these incidents have to be commented on by Iveson. Is it his job to take up the mantel of Social Justice Warrior and get involved. Is it not a job for the police to collect the facts and decide if charges are warranted. The other day I watched a woman crossing the road. A car came round the corner real fast and this teenager shouted 'move faster you fat b*tch'. Totally uncalled for. Would this have been a case Don would have made a hashtag out of. Unfortunately I'm sure we all have been victims of name calling at some point or other. Some names are not as nice as others but it does just boil down to childish name calling. Another thing, by Iveson putting himself right in the middle of these incidents he could be making things worse as there are a number of people that think Edmonton is full of Rednecks, isn't he just perpetuating that.

Iveson is a hypocrite. Where was he when a council member was calling Cabbies of a particular ethnicity "Petulant children" right in council and City manager Linda Cochrane shushed the cabbies, told them to "start acting like good Canadian citizens", and even threatened to call the police on them if they continued to misbehave.

This happened right in council chambers.

    Double standard?

Make it awkward. I'll leave that up to city council.

Maybe directives can start at the top and sort out their own backyard first.

Iveson is engaging in nothing but political opportunism here. Taking an isolated instance, giving it front page news and perpetuating a notion that Edmonton, or Alberta, is redneck.

Yeah, isn't it always like that.

It's a great initiative. Iveson can be a hypocrite. Both can exist at the same time.

Very sad in this day and age that things like that still happen.
