Thread: Cross Country Skiing

    Default Cross Country Skiing

Curious to hear people's favorite nordic ski routes in our park system. The sticky at the top regarding parks has some 404 not found pages, so figured I would post a new thread.

Do you have to pay? Where are good launch points near downtown?

No cost for skiing in town. Goldbar is where the Nordic ski club has lighted tracked trails which are great. Victoria Park and Kinsmen have trails that are tracked and Riverside Golf course is tracked as well

How is "Nordic" defined? Does this mean:

    - downhill telemark
    - cross country
    - biathalon

Or some mix of it all?

Nordic is typically cross country and doesn't include telemark. Biathalon is a competition sport that includes a nordic component.

Victoria is my favourite. Nice loop, great views.

Kinsmen if you want some fun, you can do the lower loop or go do a loop of the golf course... challenging and fun, but bring the right wax.

Used to love Terwillegar, no more.

Sometimes we will ski on the edge of the riverbank from Terwillgar to Hawrelak.

Around town we often ski and snowshoe: Mactaggart Sanctuary (Whitemud creek), Klondike Valley (Blackmud creek), and Mill Creek ravine.

I always liked Riverside Golf Course the best, but I haven't done it in ages. Not sure if it still works.

So far this thread is a moot point given that we have no snow!
