Encore also shouldn't be taller than Jasper House and should be half the height of Stantec. The John T. Ross residence also looks a lot bigger than it actually is. Oh well, still a cool graphic.

Simon O'Byrne said there should be 31 cranes in the downtown core by this summer during his speech at the casino announcement.

Encore, if built, will be higher than 110 m as it suppose to be around 40 floors, so it should be taller than Jaser House- atleast the same height.

According to the Alberta government website (who knows how accurate it is), its shows the Fox Towers (plural) at $42 million.

    http://majorprojects.alberta.ca/details/Fox-Towers

For comparison, they have the Ultima at $65 million, I knew stucco was cheap but damn that's a nice cost savings
2007 prices is a lot different than 2013/14. Inflation when through the roof since that time for construction.

Does anyone have details/renderings for the reclad of Scotia Place? There was someone on CBC's Edmonton AM this morning who mentioned the reclad as a side note to a larger discussion on the projected future office vacancy rates. First I've heard of it.

First I have heard but I am intrigued. Reclad? There are many Uglier suspects out there, so maybe there is more to it?

I had heard that already, maybe it was on c2e.

The indication from the radio interview was that it would lose its gold colour and be replaced with "clear" glass, which I assume means it will appear silver/grey like HSBC Bank Place. I bemoan the loss of colour.

I think I read on here that they don't make the gold color panels or if they do they are very expensive. I could be wrong but I remember reading something like that.

So, after the musical chairs game with Stantec, Enbridge and the CoE was done with most people figured that we'd be done with any further office towers for quite some time, as there were no major tenants left to move around. However it sounds like there's one more big RFP left. It'll be interesting to see where they end up.

Marcel, that's a very interesting little tidbit. Can you provide information with respect to the specific tenant? Because when I look at the Edmonton market, the only tenant's I see that fit the "big RFP" criteria (i.e. someone who can act as a lead tenant in a new tower) is as follows:

Epcor/Capital Power: Anchoring brand new Stationlands Tower 1 (Epcor Tower)
City of Edmonton: Anchoring brand new City of Edmonton Tower
Stantec: Anchoring brand new Stantec Tower
Enbridge: Anchoring brand new Kelly-Ramsey Block Tower
ATB: Anchoring Tower 2 of Telus Tower Complex (ATB Tower)
GoA: Anchored in bldgs across the province including heavy concentrations around capital blvd. Can't reasonably expect consolidation
Atco: Anchored in Atco tower (and very decentralized across Alberta so I wouldn't even consider them a large RFP in the downtown)

Then there is a plethora of smaller firms, service companies, EPCM's, etc. that are either small players or based in the suburbs because of the natural fit with their clients.

Only thing I can think of, maybe the GOA will finally pull out of the Terrace building.

It's under confidentiality agreements at this point. Not anything that I or my business has signed or been involved with, but other people I've talked with mentioned it without attaching a name. I've got a pretty good idea who it is, but I'm not going to play 20 questions about it. It's not a government department/agency. It's also not 100% for sure going ahead, they might review all the proposals and decide to stay put or take up some space in some of the other new towers.

From what I was told, we'll likely see a decision made in the next few months.

Where is Sonic Health building their offices? They were supposedly building a tower at one time.

The more important question is will they have a contract at all. Iirc there were some disputes surrounding the RFP process - and now there is the matter of a new Government that may be less inclined to out source lab services. Early address of this by AHS and our impoverished Government would be a surprise imo.

The empty lot immediately north of Wild Earth on 99 St, where The Cone ice cream stand was located, is being dug up. Anyone know what's being built there?

An acquaintance of mine recently mentioned they heard there will be construction starting near Wild Earth on 99 Street and 89 Avenue, does anyone know more about the project? Earlier this week I noticed a trailer and some equipment dropped off on the site immediately to the north.

Turned out just to be prep work for the ice cream stand, but in talking with another acquaintance in the development sector procura is working out details for a 30+ story highrise residential tower there.

C'mon man, really? The Cone is not an eyesore - it's cute and kitschy. It attracts lots of people, especially families. The ice cream is very good, and the service is great. If you really hate it that much then take heart in that it's only there for the summer.

Believe me, there's a lot worse eyesores to rage at.

Might be an interesting read: $200,000 an Acre

"Picking up from where his last book left off, Doug Kelly has published a second collection of stories about Albertans in the development industry. Kelly’s first book, $100,000 an Acre, covered events in the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s. Much has changed since then, starting with land prices. His second book, aptly named $200,000 an Acre, examines the contemporary development landscape and new trends in an industry that had to respond to a booming population. The book relies heavily on quotations gathered during 134 interviews and profiles people in a range of development industry jobs. Subjects include builders, planners, engineers, contractors, marketers, public servants and the developing companies themselves."
