Default Millwoods Dangerous??

Folks are saying Millwoods is a dangerous part of Edmonton because of all the killings that have happened here.....welll
I live in Millwoods, and dont really thinks its dangerous at least not for me But there must be a reason for that... Im not a drug user,or dealer (so im not hanging around drug dens etc),i'm not much of a drinker, so Im not hanging around bars or at house parties till all hours of the morning, drinking and or getting drunk.. I go to work in the morning and come home at night to a good supper. Im in bed at a decent hour. Im wondering if a persons choice of lifestyle may have a lot to do with what happens in their life. Cities all accross Canada and the U.S. have the same problems, but its how people live I think that decides how much trouble they get into.
But thats just MY 2 cents

MY MANE IS JOE!!! ...AND I AM CANADIAN!!!!

Sorry, it really sounded like that commercial. Seriously though, Millwoods is no more dangerous than any other neighborhood. As I look at many of the homicides this year, they seem pretty isolated toparticipants in less than legal activities. Random violence seems rare here still, INCLUDING Millwoods.

LOL Reading it again I see what ya mean about a commercial.. didnt mean for the post to sound that way.. But yes I do beleive that choices play a big part in the stuff that happenes to a person.. not just the part of town..Ive lived in a number of cities here in Canada and a few in the US too, and think Edmonton is one of the nicer places to live..

I agree, there's nowhere in Edmonton that's really dangerous. Millwoods makes a good place to deflect criticism of my neighborhood though

As in:

Person I've recently met: You live over there? Isn't that a bad part of town?

Me: It's no worse than Millwoods.

Millwoods has just become a kind of whipping boy in this city.

And really, there's no wonder that there are a lot of crimes reported there since the blaket statement 'Millwoods' applies to a HUGE area. On it's own, it would be the third or fourth largest city in Alberta.

Like most murders in this city, the victim knows their killer beforehand.

The one exception is when the fellow on the ETS bus got beaten to death by the young punks when he told them to shut-up. This happened to be in Millwoods.

Millwoods is no more dangerous than any part of the city, but the area is home to a few high-profile murders ( ex. the recent stabbing of the 16 year old this past weekend). Most of the murderers are under 21 years old.

So granted that Millwoods has a good concentration of young families, perhaps the community should do more to keep the young folks out of trouble. I understand it is a parenting issue too.

Ive lived in Millwoods for about 5 years now and havent had one problem.... So maybe those talking trash about it dont even live here.. they are spouting what they've heard only.. And to those parents who say they are afraid for thier kids... Make sure they are home at night and not roaming the streets drunk at 4 am, Have a talk to them about the dangers of drugs... Take an interest in what your kids are doing... Too many kids today are left to thier own devises as far as entertainment and what they do in thier spare time..

My wife tells me this last triple murder happened right accross the street from where she used to live about 7 years ago.. she said it was starting to get bad there with the younger kids from distant countries coming in and taking over...

Gee, and I always thought the increase in violence was from the popularity of gangsta rap music and violent video games

118ave>anywhere else.
There is a Donair place on 118th ave, toward the Coliseum, its the only late night food stop I have ever made where I actually felt on edge just getting out of the car.
I guess it was with good reason, because while standing I got asked if I was looking to "score." He had it all, he told me. "Crack, E, K, meth...everything!"
Lovely, I think I'll just have a delicious donair, thank you for asking!

Hey!
Don't knock the avenue!

118th is a long road, and some parts are worse than others. Just west of rexall place is a bit sketchy.

Alright, alright. If you are in that area though, stop and try the donair place, its really good despite being un-nerving.

Millwoods is only dangerous if you go in without a map and a GPS

It's definitely dangerous in that sense, although much safer than Riverbend. At least the Millwoods maze has numbers.

According to Police Reports of crime in the major areas of Edmonton, Millwoods and The Meadows has the lowest crime rate out of all of Edmonton.

Media rips Millwoods, but the fact is that it is the safest place in Edmonton to live.
