Air/Rail Links Edmonton continues to improve its ranking as a major transportation hub for northern Canada and beyond. New air routes, more cargo, Port Alberta, a major rail operations centre and the related infrastructure are all part of this increasingly critical component of the region’s economic growth. Default Aurora Jet Partners

EDMONTON, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - Two new chapters in the Alberta aviation story will be turned June 20, with the official introduction of a Canadian aircraft-ownership innovation and a newly constructed $26 million, four- bay hangar and office complex at the Edmonton International Airport.

Aurora Jet Partners is the innovation. It has been created by Morningstar Partners of Edmonton and Opus Aviation of Vancouver, companies founded and operated by Don Wheaton, Kim Ward, Daryl Katz and The Ledcor Group.

Not an airline, nor will it be an airline.

Yep I really enjoyed the "investing in a airline is risky business" comment. In the meantime Daryl awaits the delivery of his personal Global 5000 that is due next year...

Is that a Global express 5000 or the smaller Global 5000?

Any article involving Katz is guaranteed to have the most sensational and unintelligent comments. One could say Katz articles are like an outhouse, useful up top, and full of s--t at the bottom.

It's the Bonbardier Global express 5000. His aircraft will be managed by Aurora jet alongside its own fleet of Hawker 900's, Embraer Phenoms and the challenger 605.

I am not sure how innovative this actually is. Netjets has been doing the fractional jet ownership thing for over 25 years.

Fractional is nothing new to Canada. Air sprint, sunwest to name a few already offer this on Canada. I do believe Aurora jet is however the first for Edmonton on a large scale with high end aircraft.

Yes, from what I understand this is the case. It is a nice piece of news to finally be released...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry. That we need a new fractional company, when combined with the general lack of scheduled flight service, suggests that Edmonton is a horrible market when it comes to profitably flying passengers. Ignoring the type of product fractional jet ownership provides for a second, this is the type of business that should consolidate into four or five major companies in North America. No one should want to start their own micro business for fractional jets. And yet someone felt the existing players weren't serving Edmonton's needs....

Of course, it's great news that someone with money thinks they can make a profit basing a fractional jet charter business out of Edmonton. And invested money in both the business and some nice infrastructure (FBO) to support it and other aviation businesses. Gives one hope that successful aviation business can be conducted out of Edmonton.

Here's hoping that they can expand beyond being a toy/necessary evil for a few Edmonton businesses, into a successful and leading player for Western and Northern Canada...and beyond!
