Default Edmonton to open its third Eco Station

Edmonton to open its third Eco Station
BY CATHY LORD, EDMONTONJOURNAL.COMNOVEMBER 27, 2009 11:05 AM

EDMONTON — Edmonton will open its third Eco Station next month in Ambleside.

Located at 14710 Ellerslie Road, the $14 million station will process household hazardous waste, electronics and castoffs too large for regular collection. It will also feature a regular reuse area.

“The Ambleside Eco Station will make it easier for residents to dispose of their waste in an environmentally responsible way,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel, in a news release. “This is another milestone in Edmonton’s long history of being a leader in waste management.”

Lorna Rosen, general manager for Asset Management and Public Works, said Edmonton is an environmental leader because of the participation of its citizens. “Their efforts, combined with city council’s commitment to an environmentally sustainable city, are leading the way.”

The station, which opens at 9 a.m. on Dec. 8, was funded by a grant from the Alberta government.

Southside now has 2, west end 1, and east/northeast 0. Even my garbage is outclassed by the folks on the southside.

Good on the city for opening more locations regardless, I make use of these a couple times a year.

I would love for the downtown to have a walk up version of this... but yes the NE should DEFINITELY have one.

Plenty of room over by the CV Walmart and Rec Center. Plus they are using some of that land for the CV Library too!

Yes, I don't get why there isn't one in the NE?!? Why does the southside need two? GAH. Ah well, I never travel past 137 Ave anyhow or I feel like I'd fall into the Arctic Ocean... :P

Well, the NE has the actual dump, so I suppose we're good for the 'items to large for regular collection' part. it does nothing for us on the hazardous waste side.

It might makes sense to add a hazardous materials collection area to the Clover Bar transfer station to serve NE residents, but how many people actually live closer to Clover Bar than to the 142 St Eco-Station?
