Default Alberta has a duty to resist health cuts

"The Canadian Institute for Health Information(CIHI) released its most recent health spending data Thursday. The data tell three important stories that have serious implications for the health-care debate.
The first is that Alberta is not the top spender of provincial dollars for public health care. Alberta only takes the lead when you include private and out-of-pocket spending.

Where Alberta leads is in out-of-pocket costs by Albertans. This should set off alarms. This includes spending on dental, vision and other care not covered by the health system, areas where costs have been escalating. Going further down this path compromises the access and equity of our system. Already, in Canada, 17 per cent of those surveyed
have said they had gone without care in the previous year because of the cost."
