Air/Rail Links Edmonton continues to improve its ranking as a major transportation hub for northern Canada and beyond. Default Los Angeles vs San Francisco Seat Sale

West Jet is puttting up $69 OW fare to LAX for travel till Dec 16. Air Canada is also joining in the competition.

The last I checked on AC, lowest you can get is $89 OW

These fares applies to non-stop flights as well.

On the contrary, no seat sale to San Francisco because United Express is the only non-stop provider between YEG and SFO. I am trying to get a flight to SFO for February 2010 and day after day, United website is still showing a $700 round trip fare. The fare stay the same for travel until Dec 16, 2009.

I wish AC or another carrier can offer a SFO non-stop to break up the monopoly.

Try Selloffvacations.com

I get great rates from them.

I just checked.. their direct flights on AC are about 600. Of course I have no idea WHEN your going so I just chose dates.

Not likely to be AC as it's a Star Alliance co-member and code-shares those UA flights already. I know SFO is a big hub for UA...not sure if it would be in the top ten for WJ to connect with Southwest???

What would it cost (sounds silly I know) to fly YEG-LAX and then LAX-SFO?

$250 taxes in for YEG to LAX is a good deal now and 10 years ago.
might have to give it some thought...

The fare is even higher, believe it or not! $781 + tax.

I guess I have to wait until just before Xmas and hopefully, there will be a seat sale to SFO.

The average fare sale on the SFO route (non-stop) can be as low as $400 including taxes.

I highly doubt WestJet will offer the route. The Pax to SFO is not as big as to LAX. A regional jet like the AC CRJ705 will come in handy for the competition.

Booked a flight to LA for just under $300, including all taxes, fees, blah-blah-blahs, and $30 for reserving an exit row seat, which, when you're 6'8, is money well spent!

WestJet! Another reason why I love them, as I used to go to the airport 3.5 hours early and hope I could get an exit row. Now I can pay $15 online and book the seat, which saves me time, and frustration (I'd often get there early, not get the seats, and feel like I had wasted a few hours - of course there would be someone just over 5' dangling their legs in the seat). If I don't get them then I know beforehand and can prepare myself.

I don't think Air Canada allows you to reserve the exit row seats.

FYI, AC has a seat sale on now that gives you Edmonton to LAX return, all taxes in for $203. cheaper than flying to calgary.

right, but like everything F***ing stupid about AC - the direct flight is practically $2,000 return. The cheap fare you have to connect through Calgary. (i selected a weekend)
I just HATE aircanada. They actually pay more to travel agents to book flights out of calgary as opposed to YEG.
I would rather chew on foil than connect through YYC

Absolute ridiculous price difference on Air Canada's supposed 'last minute' sale for this weekend.

I've been desperately trying to get to NYC this weekend from YEG but prices have been around $1200 return the last two weeks (even though it's Thanksgiving weekend, hotels rooms are the lowest I've seen all year in NYC-go figure). So this morning I receive Air Canada's email advertising last minute prices for this weekend but, of course, Edmonton IS NOT included.

I can fly from Cowtown to Newark (Friday/Monday return) for $700 (via Toronto) but Edmonton to Newark (via Toronto or Calgary) is still around $1200. What a sick joke this is...

Air Canada will never provide decent service to Edmonton.
Westjet may still provide some reasonable flights.

Obviously to fill empty seats in YYC for their LAX flight.

A lot of People will go for this and the leakage continues.

One other prediction, a few weeks before AC heads back into creditor protection, ACE will have fully divested itself of any remaining stake in this airline.

Westjet is having a seat sale right now and you can find non-stop YEG-LAX for $49-59 each way with a total around $200.

once upon a time there lived an airline that charged a fare, and the taxes and surcharge be a little more. Taxes were 7% and the surcharge was a small nav canada fee. So for a hundred dollar ticket would cost about $125 and a $1000 fare would cost about $1095 or so. In fact I remember flying between medicine hat and calgary in the early 90s for less than $35 each way.
Now they take their fare and break out their costs and call it a surcharge. Fuel, security (well thats the fed govt - and goes directly into general revenue - thats right) etc etcc
prettysoon their going to break out all their costs and call them service charges
fuel surcharge,
Flight attendant surcharge,
Pilots surcharge,
maintenance surcharge,
envirnonmental fee,
profit surcharge,
debt financing surcharge,
airplane parking surcharge,
tire inflation surcharge,
autopilot surcharge,
free drinks surcharge (i guess they already have that)
meal surcharge..
landing fee surcharge
gratuity surcharge

where oh where is cabotage?
