Has anyone been to Fat Burgers in SEC?
anyone aware if there are any more locations in Edmonton? it's an amazing burger stand, and it does live up to its slogan: "The Last Great Burgerstand" if you disagree with that statement, say why and who's better.

I've never been there... but have heard about it. The name puts me off a bit, not to mention the fact that it's way in SEC. I think there's only one location in Edmonton so far, but would love to see another somewhere on Whyte Ave or something.

It's actually Fatburger and yes. I believe I did a review of them in the burger thread. I hate SEC but Ill go there from time to time cause it's a good restaurant. The staff are hilarious and cozy and the interior is very 50s. Their food is great, and made right after you order so you may have to wait but it is worth it. Ironically, their fries are called SKNY fries.

Agree I think it'd be awesome to have it on Whyte. But just be glad we have it, the only Canadian cities that have it are Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Most cities have them in a suburban area anyways, except like Vancouver and stuff but Edmonton could pull off an urban format one. The sad thing is, most places don't get more than 1 location, I can tell because of their locations. Only 1 for LA, but there is one in Anaheim.

Well that's stupid. What kind of company has only one location in all of L.A or Vancouver? I mean I guess it makes sense if you just want everyone to go to your one location, but I would think most people would just go somewhere more convenient than driving across the entire city for a simple burger. It doesn't make a lot of business sense to me.

From memory we have another thread on this - it has been up and running for quite a period of time now. The burgers are OK, but I think overrated (just IMO). Atmosphere is fun (they yell "fat burger, fat burger" all the time). I was a bit disappointed - I liked that place that used to exist in WEM much better.

-Phoenix: 3 locations, but Scottsdale has 1 -Oops I was wrong, LA does have a couple -San Diego: 1 -Aurora/Col Springs has 1, but not Denver -Atlanta: 1 -None for Chicago, but there is 1 in Illinois -Las Vegas/Henderson have a lot -None in New york, but long island And so on. They miss a lot of metropolitan regions that they have locations in the state like: Seattle, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Newark, Tampa, Ft Lauderdale, Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Denver, etc. Seriously I dont get it why do they choose the locations they do. Put it this way Los Angeles, Phoenix, and Las Vegas-Henderson are the only ones with multiple locations. Vancouver and many others could have more than 1 location. http://www.fatburger.com/Location/LocationsByState.aspx

^Generally it's around twenty. When you consider McDonalds, Wendys, Arbys, Burger King, and Dairy Queen it is expensive.

been there a few weeks ago, it's not GREAT, but it's not bad. If you like that kinda food it's OK. But don't go to SEC just to try it. I like Sherlock's, but that's cuz I'm always there for games. btw Sundin looks like he should be coaching

LOL, just don't look at the nutritional information of their menu before you go...! Then again, maybe you should. Then you'd see that their shakes have around 900 calories (1180 for the cookies & ice cream shake) and the average person's entire daily recommended doses of fat and saturated fat!

You have to remember what the restaurant is like. Very good for the type of restaurant and the price point is not bad.
It is worth a venture to SEC to try if you like burgers, perhaps you may find other shops that employ local people that are positive for the local economy that you like! Just get your head out of the sand and experience life! |

Sorry, but this place is brutal. Hardly worth the price, the burgers are one of the most tasteless things I've ever had.
Atmosphere is fine, all fat burgers have that retro-look to it. But it looks as though they spent more on the decor rather than on the product. Too much hype IMO. |

Johnny Rockets was a restaurant that was in WEM (main floor by the rink). It was set up to look like an old-time diner with red booths, jukeboxes at the tables and the hamburgers, shakes and the like were great.
I am not certain if Johnny Rockets was a chain or not (cannot quite remember) but they left WEM about a decade ago. Fat Burgers reminds me of Johnny Rockets and Fudruckers. |

^Oh I know Fuddruckers ! Big chain in the US, never been, but have seen those. Are they any good? I heard they left Canada due to bad sales. I know theres 1 left in Saskatoon.

The burgers were not bad at Fudruckers. You have to order at a counter the same as as Fat burgers. I have been to the one in Saskatoon when I am there more for the novelty than anything else.

Visited Fatburger in the summer... I wasn't impressed. Quite bland, 50's theme looked cheap, and the wait for what is essentially overpriced fast-food killed it. There's better burger joints much closer to home.
I've never really been a fan of Johnny Rockets either, but then again I've only eaten at them in airports and the service is terrible. |

Well considering the price, I would rather go spend $14 on a burger at the Hat downtown.

Johnny Rockets is indeed an American chain. Their gimmick is the 50's diner nostalgia theme.
And there's no bloody way I'm going to SEC just for a burger since I try to avoid that hellhole if at all possible. You want my business, open in a more central location. Is the Garage still around?

^ As far as I know the Garage is still around.
One of the best bets for a burger is Kids in the Hall. (Central enough for you SDM?) |

The Garage is still around... although I'm not really sure why everyone says their burgers are so great. I mean, they're okay... but definitely not as fantastic as everyone makes them out to be.

Fatburger is a really cool place with good milkshakes. The burgers unfortunately are pretty bad.

It's a cool place...but for $12+ for a burger/onion rings (which were sub-par) and a drink...IMO it's not worth it. AW |

Totally agree. Burgers here are just okay. Frozen, pre-formed patties are used. RE: Johnny Rockets. Great burgers for sure. I believe they had to vacate the mall due to some kind of non-compete agreement WEM had with MacDonalds. Maybe someone can confirm or deny this. |
