Since many or all red light cameras were turned off for a period of months last year, has anyone heard of any research into the resulting changes in collision stats.? It would seem to be an ideal opportunity to show just how effective they are at reducing accidents.
Last years news story.. Camera problems void speeding tickets - Edmonton http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmont...cancelled.html |

It would be interesting to see if anyone has pulled together those stats for Edmonton.
I came across an article a little while ago (though I have heard similar claims before) about a seven-year study in Virginia that found the installation of red light cameras in 28 intersections in the state led to a 12% increase in overall accidents (28% increase in rear-end accidents), and an increase in injuries from crashes in half of the state jurisdictions studied. http://communities.washingtontimes.c...ty-or-profits/ |
