The Summer of Thunder at the Alberta Aviation Museum Canada Day Celebrations Start June 28th!!! Flown by former Edmontonian Lt. Col. (retired) Dan Dempsey former Snowbird lead, author air show/display pilot for “Hawk One”. (bio attached) Shortly after (timing TBA) the Vintage Wings of Canada North American Mustang IV (P-51D) will be joining the flight line at the Alberta Aviation Museum for a visit through Canada Day and into July. . Currently scheduled to arrive Friday June 29th will be the Vintage Wings of Canada Boeing Stearman Bi Plane trainer that operated with the Royal Canadian Air Force during the Second World War right here in Alberta. While here the Stearman is more than just a static display as it will be flying as it does Vintage of Wings of Canada member rides. You must be a member of Vintage Wings of Canada to take part in this program (non members not permitted to participate). See www.vintagewings.ca for details on this unique program of living history. The evening of June 29th a very special FREE treat for Edmonton! Canadian Astronaut Major Jeremy Hansen will be doing a presentation for children/youth all ages “Pursue your dreams” at 7:00pm. Major Hansen is Canada’s latest Astronaut and has taken time out from his busy schedule to be here to make this inspiring presentation. Come early seating is limited. Canada Day July 1st the Alberta Aviation Museum will be open with all the visiting aircraft on display, the Vintage Wings of Canada member rides and for the Children, the local Chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will be holding a Free (other than museum admission) Young Eagles day where children between 8 and 16 years will get a flight in a light aircraft, courtesy of the EAA. Regular museum admissions apply all days of the Canada Day weekend events. Alberta Aviation Museum Canada Day weekend Schedule June 27th- Discovery Air Hawk One F-86 Arrival Lt.Col (Ret) Dan Dempsey will be arriving in “Hawk One” the Canadair Sabre VI in its golden Hawk’s colours Time: TBA June 28th- Alberta Aviation MuseumCanada Day Weekend on Global Pilot of “Hawk One” Dan Dempsey and Thomas Hinderks Executive Director of the Alberta Aviation Museum will be on the Global Morning Show at 7:40am to talk about all of the Canada Day events. June 29th- Discovery Air F-86 “Hawk One on display at the Alberta AviationMuseum from 1pm to 4pm. Joining Hawk One will be the North American Mustang IV (P-51D) and Boeing Stearman trainer of Vintage Wings of Canada. There will be Vintage Wings of Canada member flights available in the Boeing Stearman through the weekend. Free presentation 7:00pm at the Alberta Aviation Museum An evening honouring the past present and future. achievements, adventures and operations of the Discovery Air “Hawk One” F-86 Sabre. Astronaut Major Jeremy Hansen will be presenting “Pursue your dreams” a motivational presentation on achieving your dreams as well as the training to be an astronaut and the Canadian Space Agency The First Canadian Schools Aerospace Challenge Team, made up of 16-18 year olds from the greater Edmonton area, will be making a presentation on their challenge of being the first Canadians to compete in this prestigious UK aerospace event. June 30th- Discovery Air “Hawk One” on display 11am to 4:30pm With the Vintage Wings of Canada North American Mustang IV (P-51D) and the Boeing Stearman. Young Eagles Flights from 11am to 3pm (weather permitting) The Experimental Aircraft Association is hosting a Young Eagles Day on Canada Day at the Alberta Aviation Museum. Young Eagles is a program to give children between 8 and 16 their first flight in a light aircraft at NO COST. You must register on site Canada Day, first come/first serve seats are limited. Entry to the Museum is at regular admission rates, but there is no cost to the Young Eagles program.
