| Air/Rail Links Edmonton continues to improve its ranking as a major transportation hub for northern Canada and beyond. New air routes, more cargo, Port Alberta, a major rail operations centre and the related infrastructure are all part of this increasingly critical component of the region’s economic growth. The next two arrivals for the Alberta Aviation Museum's Canada Day celebrations are due in Friday between 3pm & 5pm.
The P-51 Mustang will be flown by Rob Fleck the President, Vintage Wings of Canada. The P-51 with its 27 litre Supercharged V-12 engine and 11 foot (3.4m) diameter propeller is a very different experience from the Discovery Air F-86 Sabre Jet that arrived Wednesday. ![]() The Mustang in its Canadian Second World War camouflage colours makes an imposing sight and the thunder of the mighty Rolls Royce Merlin engine penetrates your body as it flies past. A sight and sound that may be making it’s last appearance in Edmonton. The P-51 Mustang was flown by many Canadians both during the Second World War and Post War in the 1950s with the Royal Canadian Air Force. The Mustang will be escorted into Edmonton City Centre Airport by Todd Lemieux of Vintage Wings flying a North American T-28 Trojan Vietnam War Era trainer and ground attack aircraft. ![]() The brute size and design of the T-28 combined with its 29 litre air cooled round engine is a stark contrast to the sight and sound of the P-51 Mustang as they arrive over Edmonton City Centre Airport. While the P-51 Mustang will be staying for the Canada Day celebrations the T-28 will be returning to Calgary. We will advise a more exact time as information is provided by the flight crews, Friday. I will post updated times on this thread so your neck won't hurt. (lol) Tomorrow from arrival to 6pm (4pm for the Sabre) Saturday from 11 to 4pm Sunday from 11 to 4pm You can get up close and personal with the Sabre, the P-51 and the Trojan till it leaves. Dan loves putting kids of all ages in the Sabre cockpit! Ask nice and Rob might do the same with the "51" Also coming in is the Boeing Stearman Bi Plane ![]() and if you go to: http://www.vintagewingsmembers.ca/flightOps.cfm It explains how you can become a member of Vintage Wings of Canada and qualify for a members ride in the P-51 Mustang or Boeing Stearman while they are here. Or talk to the Vintage Wings team here and they can explain it! Note: You must be a Vintage Wings of Canada member...non members cannot fly in Vintage Wings of Canada aircraft.
