Wasn't the old International, across the street going south from the police station, also torn down, or at least made into something other than a hotel?

Don't forget The Transit Hotel on Fort Road, which patrons lovingly describe as
"... the dirtiest, sleaziest, scummiest place I have ever been to. I felt so out of place because I was young, not into drugs, and I shower on a regular basis. " and then there's The Grand Hotel, across from the bus station, downtown. The owners describe it as "... one of Edmonton's oldest premier hotel (sic)". Unfortunately, the travellers who tried to stay there comment that "The room stunk of cigarette smoke, and the sheets were gross, everything about this hotel was terrible. When we went out of the hotel to look around Edmonton there was a homeless guy slumped against a wall with blood coming out of his leg right in front of the hotel. When we went back in the hotel, the door with a glass window into the upstairs rooms had been smashed and there was blood on the floor. We got the hell out of there the next day. I would give this hotel a -1 out of 5. DO NOT STAY HERE!! "

Of course, stretching back a bit further there was the King Edward Hotel and the soon to be somewhat reincarnated Alberta Hotel.

Thank-you all for replying. I know there was an Empire Hotel (at least I am pretty sure that there was). There was a hotel in the same block (Kinda further back in....a real slum...slums of all slums). Does anyone know the name of that one?

I think you could also count the Alberta Hotel (rebuilt after being dismantled 30 years ago), the Selkirk (burnt down in the early sixties), the Mayfair and I believe there was a hotel at the Gibson block (96 Street/Jasper).
