Nice shot, I love how The Pearl dwarfs everything around it and with all the construction cranes rising along that stretch of Jasper Avenue, Along with the ones in Glenora, UofA and the soon to rise towers downtown I think Edmonton could rejoice in a new municipal "bird" The Crane!

Very excited to see the entire thing glazed

From this photo we can see all three "sections" of the glazing. The buildings Blue portion, the White portion, and finally the regular glazed area on the far Right.

Which has always been my beef with this developer, why is it that everyone except for Marcell has to guess how it will turn out this late in the game? Other developers show you up front with good renderings (eg EPCOR did not surprise). Hopefully it will be glass curtain wall, small stucco accents, and no punched windows.
Lets hope my hoping was right, a big improvement for this developer if the stucco is very limited. Even better if no stucco at all like a premium design...
so how about some crow? Your above post was probably the nicest one you've had on this thread...

I might want to point out to those thinking that moa is avoiding this thread by pointing out that he's posted something like two or three times in this thread since December.

well, before that, he had posted 111 or 112 times on this thread... so he's way below average now in posting on this thread... now that the crow is ready. But just like the LRT, just like Glenora Skyline, he'll gladly change his tune now that he's been proven completely and utterly out to lunch.

In his defense though, previous elevations of the project DID in fact show "cementitous material" or whatever. But he also did claim that the developer had a "history" of not living up to renderings, despite there being absolutely zero support for that statement being that Quest turned out identical to what it was shown as.

Meh.

One of my buildings gets a sort of harmonic oscillation when it is windy out. I've got a large wide open floor with high ceilings and rows of fluorescent pendant light fixtures right at the top of the tower, and with the right wind generated frequency, all the lights sway in unison. It's pretty wild actually. Makes you feel like you are on a boat.

I remember when I work on the top floor of our building with TD.. Strong winds would make the plants sway and a few people even got motions sickness.

Pearl's dancing is fine.

It is the humming, that is coming from her.

She is singing Madonna's

"Gotta dress me up... All over, all over"

Nobody can sleep here when it is windy.

It is awful.

That said, I'd be surprised if it really is swaying at this point, considering that it's just a skeleton and the wind would just cut right through it.

I totally forgot about "grand finale" that is going to happen soon. I've talked to one of the construction guys yesterday. He said they are setting up the date for Pearl's orange stack delivery. Regency is renting a Mi-26 super chopper (from Kazakhstan apparently) to lift it off the ground. It is very heavy. After all, it is coming from one of the largest cruise ships ever built.
In my files I've found a dated scan from local paper.

^would be fantastic if there was.

The building's height has really changed the feel of that area for me, makes it feel very much 'up and coming'. Although there has been many new condos around that area over the past few years, the height of the pearl really helps shed the look of stagnation. Changes in the skyline are always fantastic

Correct, it is a Westrich project.

Pearl is Regency, some might say Edgewater is the Pearl 2-3.

I would say that Regency is more concerned about selling units in Pearl before starting another pearl-esque project. I think its only about 40% sold right now.

Edgewater is an entirely different category of building.

Actually if you're going chronological, and spanning between different companies, Ultima would be Pearl 2 and Encore would be Pearl 3.

Question Any More Glass Installed

Any pics on new glass being installed, they should be installing a complete floor every 1.5 to 2 weeks max. . Have you guys done the math? that is 54 weeks and they should be finished.

You are probably right. Some people are going to be waiting a long time to occupy their condos! Nothing like buying a Wallmart quality wall from China! Definitely not just in time delivery!

And perhaps the supplier and/or developer wanted the glass to be made in one giant batch, to maintain consistency of the glass across the tower. I don't know how hard it would be to reproduce the glass colour exactly; would it be difficult to reproduce small batches week or months apart to the same specifications, or is that easy for glaziers to do?

Its probably no coincidence the glass arrived at around the same time the final appeal against the Pearl's height and floor increase failed; the developer probably had a good inkling the appeal would fail, and brought in the glass once they had the final numbers for the building.

Is it possible the Pearl got a discount for ordering their windows in bulk, rather then piecemeal? And might the discount and or availability of extra glazing prompted the decision to increase the Pearl's height further?

I'm probably out to lunch, but its fun to speculate

Anyone who makes generalizations about the lack of quality of products made by those of Chinese heritage is both wrong, and forgetting our own history; without the blood, sweat, and lives lost of people of Chinese heritage, we wouldn't have had the high quality railway that united the nation and kept the Yanks from eating western Canada for supper.
It is out to lunch! I'd hate to think that if you have to buy quality it means it will always be late. I'm not disparaging the Chinese people and I'm sure they are hard workers, but like most products from china, they are made with cheap labour, no environmental oversite, lack of health and safety or labour laws and sometimes substandard materials.

I can assure you that when glass is procured for a project of this size, it is purchased for the whole project, not piecemeal and if they have to produce the glass all in one go to get better colour matching, I would hate to think if they ever have to replace any later on!

It came down to one thing and one thing only...price!! for every dollar these developers save, its another dollar in their pocket. This building will have a 2 year warranty on it and after that the developer says adious amigo and the condo corporation and individual owner's are on their own.

They are constantly bringing the glass to the site. Today, they brought more than usual. I've seen at least two 40ft containers.
Panels are stored inside the building, on each floor. It is hard to see them unless you are standing far away and use zoom. I could see up to 5th floor.

On the South side at least 1 more panel was installed, as of today.

And, correct me if I am wrong, but aren't they forming the last floor?

Cladman, you are a trolling recklessly. Have you ever been outside of North America? Have you been to China or any country in the East? You really should. You would realize that it is not us (in particular Canada) that is leading the way in skyscraper construction, least of all in all glass curtain wall construction. Your assertion that a China made curtain wall is inferior is founded in some personal experience you had likely with an unrelated product that was made in China. Please have the sense to realize this. And even if the curtain wall in question is in fact a terrible product, it's origin in China has nothing to do with it. The company in question Jangho Group, has a very impressive portfolio of projects none of which seem to have been put together on a shoestring budget as you suggest. Would they be awarded such high profile projects if their reputation for "Walmart quality" preceded them? You do realize that expertise and know how has as much to do with why we manufacture in China as cost?

Due to an emergency trip back north I was driving around quite a bit today in Edmonton.

I was absolutely astounded by the Pearl's presence on the skyline, from every angle. Campus, Groat, Low Level, etc.

Can't wait to see it finished!

It's not for certain we won't see stucco.

Oh, please don't say that.
About 200 degrees(front, rear, and one side) of the lower level are already reflecting the sun.

Indeed - it will be the premier condo in the City and has raised the bar.

For the new Arena District Condo Thread: Can WAM do better than the Pearl in the Arena District? One would expect it should and will be curtain-wall completely as no one is going to pay a premium in the Arena District without it. It would just cheapen the effect on the arena itself and surrounding development. If Kasian are doing design - they are well equipment to introduce imported Chinese curtain-wall into the design given they have design offices in China to iron out any wrinkles.
