'bump"...
this will be a great time for kids (registered or not they will be able to race whether they have a car or use one of ours) as well as the rest of us who just think we're still kids... ![]()

there is so much untapped potential to this event. There is so much closed off road and so much room to do something fun!

Yes, there is...
We do have some issues with the site...mainly around pavement quality, the ability to keep it smooth, markings, and especially spectator seating... ...all solvable. Quality - if you think the tar strips are murder on your 18" rims, try 4" wheels! They are craters..and bleed off speed huge. We may look to move the race further downhill to use the grass for spectators (south side of the Groat Road north on ramp)...all in due time... Considering we want 3 different races...the more spectator friendly, the better! We stayed up that far to avoid getting too close to Groat...we don't have spectator fencing etc yet. If we get the demand, then yes. I'l try to sketch something up to show what I mean

Thanks, Richard, looks like fun. Reminds me of a big version of the Cub Car Rally.

Thanks Gord!
As promised to edp earlier...a rough sketch up of what we're looking at for 2013 3 races -
![]() The green is the length of the AASBD track - 1000' The red areas are closures. As per this year, we get the whole hill. The black line is the run off lane - a very steep uphill grade that, with brakes, will have most cars stopping well within the 300' that is there. Most AASBD cars stop within 100' on flat land at their top speeds. The larger red area just before Groat Road NB (and just after the run off lane) is going to have arrester equipment. This will be a catch net followed by tires. This would only be hit if the brakes completely failed, and the driver exceeded the maximum speeds projected - aka - not likely. However, to prevent issues, we will have 100' of arrester equipment allocation prior to any conflict with Groat Road NB. Plus, it will have a great visual on Groat with signage to let folks know what's going on. The yellow area is where the participants will stage, where tech will be located, and the ramps will be right before the start line. The orange area will be reserved for participant parking, dignataries, and close to the finish line will be St John's First Aid and a turnaround lane for the cart retrieval and driver retrun vehicles (aka golf carts). If we have room (that area is approx 600' of 2 lane road we could angle park a lot of cars)..that will be parking for spectators as well, but participants get first priority. More parking is in the city park to the west. Blue area is for spectators. Light purple area will be for vendors, displays, etc. We have 1,600' x 30' of area to make this available for car displays, hot dogs, ice cream, info booths, media, etc. White lines show how the cars will exit the event. We would expect a lot of pedestrian traffic to attend from the Oliver area. For the GO-KIT derby portion, we will move the ramps forward to have the race be 200'. I am working on a design to make the ramps portable once assembled...and also to become their own trailer when we need to tear down. This should minimize set-up and tear down times. Also, this will allow the ramps to be used for the ADULT soap box race as well...which... ![]() This ADULT event will have the track be over 2000' long and use most of the hill. The vendors and parkign will be the same, with some allowances for participant parking at the top of the hill (negotiating...) The top of Vic Hill where the yellow is will be for Tech, staging, and some of the more qirky performances we plan for the participants to do before they ride. We will also employ Grant Notley park for some activities , but we can extend the staging area all the way to the far right lane exiting onto Vic Promenade...that is what our current closure allows. We could add Vic Promenade as an activation zone...hint hint edp... For the adult, it won't be a straight sprint to the bottom. Not only would that be a little boring...but you could pick up enough speed that the arrester equipment gets used a little too frequently. There will be chicanes and other obstacles introduced to provide more of a challenge, and also to keep speeds at an acceptable and safe level (turning scrubs speed in gravity car). These are just the initial thoughts...going to this level means more volunteers, more funding, and of course, better prizes. I hope we can keep the GO KITS as relaxed and fun as they are now, but sometimes when you introduce even something as simple as a medal...well..the competitive nature of some gets the best of them...
