Awesome Things About North Edmonton #1 – Grime

A while ago, I promised to write an occasional and ongoing series about the many things that make living in north Edmonton awesome. There are a lot of awesome things about north Edmonton but one thing jumped out at me recently: grime.

Edmonton has been nicked named Dirt City by a few of our local (and expat) artists.

The nickname is apt. The city can be dirty, dusty, and grimy. The north side, for some reason, appears to be more grimy than many other parts of the city. And, when I was thinking about the kinds of places that I like to spend time the most, it occurred to me that most of them have a certain amount of grime.

Maybe you could put all your random blog finds into one central thread? This is getting abusive.

Why... Every journal article gets its own thread

Or do you just not like what I post.

And if you don't like it don't read it... This person is going to do a series on living in north Edmonton.. This is a site about Edmonton... Hmmm seems like a good fit to me!

Jesus. I would hate to see how Medwards would act if he had administrative privileges.

Depends on how you describe grime. Whyte Ave used to be described as grimey.

Now, there's more people, more litter, more grime than ever ... but it's got cache.

He$#, I remember when the Commercial and Strath were decidedly, "grimey." Now they're cool.

Amazing what some community spirit, street modification and a strong BRZ can accomplish.

Makes me think of, what (?) a nascent 118th Ave.

You got something cool going there in Crestwood, Norwood and 118 - blog on.

Personally I don't like the article or the title dirt city.. I think the artist that coined that phrase did it for his own marketing more than anything. The "look I'm the rap artist who crawled out off the projects" style image.

There was no revolt. I gave it up after 6 years of modding this place.
