It will just help the AC passengers see on the FIDS that KL is operating to AMS. Help them make a better choice next time.

I think alot of people have already realized this, Icelandair and KLM are a fair amount cheaper and the connections available at KEF and AMS are alot easier and diverse.

^
In the above article, it mentions fear of turboprop aircraft is one of their justifications. Is turboprop fear an actual thing? It seems silly to me, since propeller flight is how it all began.

The Q400 is an excellent alternative to jets and I love it, but even I would refuse to ride one to Hamilton. Winnipeg I would do, but 2 hours is long enough, and the speed difference does become significant after that.

Other turboprops are much more limited by cabin/seat dimensions, speed and noise. I top out around 45 minutes, but at those speeds you don't even get to Grande Prairie.

Wish they'd make a Q500.

How'd people deal with the noise and time in the old days? I'm visualizing Indiana Jones, with the map graphic showing the prop plane going across oceans (with appropriate stops for fuel).

^ when your alternative is three days on a train, 7 hours in a Lockheed Electra to Toronto would be very competitive. I think they had better in-flight service than we do today too.

That being said, the service available on trains back in the day wasn't anything to sneeze at either.

^ absolutely. Trains were pretending to emulate ocean liners in a small way, and that's what forced airlines to up their service as well.

Some interesting numbers coming from the Westjet CEO at the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce luncheon today:

19,000 Westjet flights at YEG in 2014
54% of the YEG market is on Westjet
Largest international carrier in Las Vegas

A little refresher on the Kamloops route:

Like all WestJet routes, it started as Calgary only service. Non-stops from Edmonton and Vancouver were subsequently added, and both were dropped shortly after. Service was on mainline 737s.

Once Encore launched, WestJet gave the Vancouver route another try, this time on the smaller Encore aircraft. Once again, it was dropped.

Now they are trying Edmonton again, hopefully it goes better than the previous mainline service and both Vancouver services.

Kamloops starts today! This is from the press release:

Quote:
WestJet serves 28 cities on a non-stop basis from Edmonton International Airport and in 2014, operated more than 19,000 departures from EIA. Between 2005 and 2015, WestJet has increased its daily departures from Edmonton by more than 110 per cent.

Canadian Airlines expect bigger take from bag fees.

http://www.edmontonjournal.com/busin...605/story.html

Chris Murray of AltaCorp Capital expects Air Canada will collect an extra $50 million from the new bag fees this year. He also says ancillary fees should increase by more than 20 per cent as it gets full benefit from baggage charges and extends onboard Wi-Fi services

These are the same airlines who have not announced any seat sales in spite of record low oil prices. Just rake in big profits and up the fares to boot.

So DL is not bringing back the seasonal mainline to MSP this summer. Both flights will be flown on CRJ900.

Last summer, it was quite the scene seeing 4 US carriers based A319's in the morning headed to the US (UA to EWR and IAH, AA to DFW and DL to MSP).

Another airline downsizing service at YEG...

Is this really an issue? They still fly there no? What is the difference from a connector and a year round non-stop? Does the plane stop somewhere between here and Ft mac or other cities?

^smaller, often slower aircraft. Usually tarmac versus jetway entrance/exit.

Oh, likely just to annoy me personally, 'cause I can't think of any good reason, AC on the YEG-YYC run parks at the furthest frikken gate from the terminal possible.

Hrrm, also parks furthest away on the YEG (and YYC) YVR run.

11.2. London

Not like I enjoy splitting hairs or anything.
The Express routes to YMM, YYC, YQU, YZF, YQR and YXE are all operated by Dash-8-Q400's though not jets the Q400 is a lot faster than the old generation of Dash-8.

YWG is the only "Express" route with jet service from YEG using the CRJ-200.

I don't expect much from AC and it's partners for YEG. They truly have a weak presence at YEG with the exception of it's YYZ service that gets bumped upto 10 daily flights this summer using A319's, 320's and the 321.
