Default No Room For Parking At Many New Apartment Complexes

No Room For Parking At Many New Apartment Complexes

http://www.opb.org/news/article/no-r...ment-projects/

“Many of the people here don’t drive, and least our immediate neighbors that we know of, do not drive. And we do not drive, no,” Burton says.

“I love my lifestyle. I don’t like to get pushy, but when people ask me about it, I explain how much less expensive it is, and less stressful it is, and how I lost 20 pounds the first year, because I was walking everywhere,” Cates says.

Burton and Cates have one other thing in common: the buildings they live in don’t have parking places. Developers are betting that many more Portlanders like them are looking to rent new apartments.

One of those developers is Dave Mullens with the Urban Development Group. He opened the Irvington Garden in a close-in Northeast Portland neighborhood last year. It’s 50 units with no parking places.

I am sorry but thisnarticle is just too good!!

“Parking a site is the difference between a $750 apartment and a $1,200 apartment. Or, the difference between apartments and condos,” he says.

Of 40 apartment building projects to be filed in the last year and a half, 25 offer no parking.

Heron says 16 stories with no parking

What a useless topic for an Edmonton forum. Is this a Developer testing the reaction in this City?

Medwards and Whynow99, this article addresses an ISSUE clearly related to development in Edmonton. Though it might not say "Edmonton" any where in it I think it has a place here. One might argue that far too many Edmontonians need to start looking beyond the borders of our fair city for inspiration and I would say Portland isn't such a bad place to start.

Jung Frau.. I totally agree with you.

If Medwards want to continue to act like he is a mod than so be it.

Why do we not see more projects going ahead with no parking? Why do projects in our DT area require so much parking. The new CWB on Jasper and related development are supposed to have apx 400 parking stalls as per the existing bylaws. They are asking for a 20 percent reduction. This reduction will most likely be challenged at SDAB by some disgruntle neighbor. Look at the price difference in rental rates too! We needs some of these projects in Edmonton.

Medwards i also want to point out that despite all your complaining not a single one of my threads have been moved or closed down by site admin so please stop playing backseat mod. If you don't like it, don't post.
