There is nothing new on the $30-million golf course capital redevelopment plan the City of Edmonton is looking at for all three of the municipal courses: Victoria, Riverside and Rundle Park.

Other, that is, of it happening this year.

Originally, Riverside would have shut down this fall and closed for all of next year while Victoria would have shut down in the fall of 2013 and then for the duration of 2014.

“Work is continuing on the master plan. We are going through revisions,” said Mark Torjusen, the city’s supervisor of corporate communications.

Part of the plan is to replace all the greens at Riverside and Victoria, including relocating some of them, and add some new tee boxes to lengthen both courses.

Riverside is 61 years old, Victoria is 105. Both courses have hardly been touched and yet both courses are in probably the best shape they have ever been in.

I would really like to see Victoria become more of a year round destination with x-ski rentals, snow shoe rentals, toboggan rentals, etc.... and for the club house to have more of a focus on good casual dinning and event bookings. It has such an incredible location, but food to die from, not for.
