Ian, don't forget that Edmonton is a work camp for the Oilsands, although I couldn't find any pictures here.

Great shots Ian. For the most part, your photo`s show how I enjoy the city. I even remember seeing the woman saluting you, as she made an impression on me a few weeks ago. Albeit not great to see her, i live in the city and it is apart of city life.

Way to go IanO - you've captured the 15% of Edmonton that isn't Oil refineries, power centres and pickup trucks!!! Great pictures of my favourite areas of Edmonton.

Adding my voice to the chorus of acclaim. Great stuff, Ian.

One question, though...

What's the church in the photo above the 1 2 3 garage doors?

^ I believe that's the new St. Joseph Seminary @ 98 Ave traffic circle. It was relocated from St. Albert Trail when the NW AHD was being built.

Hey! there's no oil refineries, power centres or pickup trucks in this thread! I really wanted to see pictures of oil refineries, power centres and pickup trucks! Thanks for nothing!

One place I do not reconize is the sunroom? with the white, yellow, red, and green glass, next after our saluting lady.

Thanks for posting the photos.

There's probably a few hundred thousand Edmontonians that haven't seen any of these places and wouldn't believe these are of Edmonton.

I regularly post such pictures (that I take with my phone usually) on facebook. I know that only reaches a couple hundred people on a good day, but it's something.

Fantastic shots!

I say keep going, all the parks, big and small throughout the city, maybe have some other folks add their favourites. There are some great old neighborhoods too!

My son actually said to me "Dad from up here you can't even see all the houses it looks like a big park" he said this while on my condo balcony 200 feet up!

He's 7

Can't see any power centers or refineries either from up there just a great expanse of trees with the odd taller building poking out

These are wonderful photos. The neat thing is, though, how empty the central neighborhoods are on a typical summer day compared to the pickup-clogged roads around the refineries and power centres. I just had a one-week vacation -- saw it first-hand, especially on the week-ends. Actually it adds a kind of charm to the central streets.

Here's an idea. Actually I think the Journal tried to do this or something similar a few months ago...

An interactive map of Edmonton, supported by an app. Hosted by the city of Edmonton (maybe on Edmontonstories.ca?) where people can upload photos of the city and they are automatically geo-tagged. So for instance, had Ian been using this app and snapping pictures on his phone each individual picture would show up with a little icon over the specific address he's taking a picture of.

Kind of a google streetview made by people for people. Naturally it would highlight all of the nicest spots, because why would anybody take a picture of 'the bad spots'. Actually even that could be incorporated. Geo-tagging graffiti tags, for instance could be useful for Capital City Cleanup.

Just a thought. Needs to be worked on, but it's something.

not specific for Edmonton, but that service already exists with Flickr and panaromia...

Also, with google maps, if you hover the streetview dude over the map, and little circles show up... those are links to geo-tagged images.

I've now added "bicycle & beers tour of Edmonton with IanO" to my bucket list.

Seriously, I'll buy the first round.
