Cool Safewalk at the University of Alberta is recruiting!

Are you a new student? In Engineering or Dentistry and need volunteer hours? Do you want to get leadership experience under your belt? Volunteer with Safewalk!

Safewalk provides a safe alternative to walking alone at night around the campus community and beyond. Safewalk was created not as a reaction to crime, but as a proactive step to build the safest possible campus community. Safewalk is free of charge and is available to any member of the surrounding community—undergrads, graduate students, staff, faculty, and members of the public.

Each Patroller is part of a co-ed team that escorts clients within Safewalk's boundaries. As a Patroller, you are the most visible aspect of our service, interacting directly with the general campus community. Your foremost role is to ensure the safety and comfort of your client, patrol the campus, and cultivate the credibility of Safewalk. It is absolutely crucial that Safewalk remain a presence on campus. Therefore, it is necessary for all teams to patrol campus throughout the evening.

So far as training goes, no prior training or experience is necessary! We will train you on all aspects of the position. As well, you get to meet new people, sign up for shifts when you want to (we do not assign days or shifts), get plenty of fresh air and exercise, multiple sponsorships and discounts from the community, reference letters, and the ability to advance and take on leadership positions.

However, applicants must:
- Be able to walk for 3 hours straight outside (even in winter)
- Be able to understand and speak english
- Be a University of Alberta student, or member of the University community
- Have clean criminal record
- Be enthusiastic and friendly
- Volunteer at least once a week

Volunteer applications can be picked up at our office at our office in the lower level of SUB, 030-E, at any Infolink, or on our website (don't mind the date).

Applications are due by September 21st. If you have any questions, contact Andrea or Evan at 780-492-5563, or by email at safewalk@su.ualberta.ca

Was a Safewalk and S.W.A.T. (Safewalk Advisory Team Member) for a few years while I was on campus. Met lots of great people and had lots of fun. It's a fantastic service and a really fun volunteer position. Anyone who is new to the UofA should volunteer. Great way to meet people and learn the layout of campus.
