In the first seven months this year, 233 plates were stolen in the city, compared to 158 in the same period last year.

"They'll steal it and put it on a vehicle to commit crimes like...armed robberies, stealing gas that type of thing," said acting Sgt. Dean Dukart.

Police are holding information sessions at Kingsway Mall over the next few weeks to show drivers how to secure their plates. Police will at the mall parking lot next Monday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

I'm told that a large number if thefts that show up in Oliver on the eps crime map are actually Lic plate thefts... Secure bolts can be obtained at your local cop shop I believe
