Default Plywood at Jasper & 105 Street

Does anyone have any information about the plywood that has been set up (for months now) at the corner of Jasper & 105 Street? It looks extremely shabby and there seems to be absolutely no action taking place behind it.

That is the exhaust tower for the parkade of Sunlife that collapsed last fall in a wind storm. It is a shame how long it is taking to be repaired though.

Sunlife? You mean Standard Life, yes?

Pretty sure the majority of the lights on the Standard Life sign on top of the building facing North have been burned out for 5 years. Maintenance seems to be a slow process there.

Standard Life also has the worst elevator in town, specifically the one for the Baker Clinic.

That is actually due to a vehicle accident last year. Some drunk guy in a pickup truck smashed through the sign structure / vent on a friday night in the summer. saw that from my balcony at the icon.

People working in the building have called it "Substandard Life" for years and years.

Still not fixed. We drove by yesterday and noticed that there was some plastic sheeting wrapped around the top of it, and couldn't remember if it had always been like this or if that was new and indicated some kind of movement on this lingering eyesore..?

and inexcusable - even if it is going to take a long time to repair something, there is absolutely no reason that a prime corner on jasper needs to look at an unpainted plywood shack and the remnant pieces of an old sign for this length of time. at least spend $80 and buy a couple of galloms of paint. even their site hoarding when they built the building looked better than that...

Exactly ken. I am sure their retailers would have appreciated their names nicely painted or affixed to it.

Is there anyone to complain to? Standard Life clearly doesn't give a toss, is there any City jurisdiction over this type of situation?

If I'm not mistaken, this building was just sold to Northam Realty Advisors as per the FP

Considering the sign on the top of the building facing North has been almost entirely burnt out for over a year, with most of the lights having been burnt out for 2-3 years at least, it's not surprising.

Ah, I haven't been up on my rooftop patio in awhile, given the weather! The point stands though, that sign had been slowly flickering out for several years, one letter at a time.
