There are a number of publicly traded Edmonton companies. So I thought I'd start this thread to get people's opinions/knowledge about these companies.

Stantec surges as Edmonton firm posts higher earnings

EDMONTON - Shares of Stantec Inc. (TSX: STN) roared higher Friday after the big engineering, architecture and environmental services consulting firm posted strong second-quarter results.

In midday trading Friday on the Toronto Stock Exchange, Stantec’s shares were up $2.70 apiece to $31.10 on volume of 135,500 shares.

Late Thursday, the Edmonton-based company reported second-quarter net earnings of $30.8 million or 67 cents per diluted share, up from $25.7 million or 56 cents a share in the prior-year period.

Gross revenues surged 15.5 per cent to $476.2 million, up from $412.3 million a year ago.
