Default Can anyone recommend a good doctor and dentist?

Hi all,

I was looking for a good doctor (preferably female) and a good dentist in the downtown area. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

Yeah, but my doctor is not taking new patients.

My dentist is wonderful too and is taking new patients. Her practice is in the westend near Meadowlark.

Time to Care Dental http://www.timetocare.ca/contact.html

TIME TO CARE Dental Group
Dr. Sylvie Renoir
Dr. Michelle Breault
Dr. Jerome Caouette
Dr. Dennis Leonard

209, 8708 - 155 Street.
Edmonton, AB
T5R 1W2

phone (780) 484-5918
fax (780) 484-7819

I go to Dr. Renoir and cannot say enough great things about her, the staff or the whole place.

Finding a doctor especially a female one is extremely hard and I wish I had some names but I don't know any taking new patients.

You can call Capital Health referrals and they can provide a list of Doctors accepting new patients.

Comfort Dental at 149 st/87 ave is really good. My wife was
just in there on Wednesday to get two teeth pulled, a molar
and a wisdom. She's very impressed.

Westgrove Medical Clinic at 142 st/102 ave is a great clinic.
My doctor is there, and though he's male, they do have 2 or
3 lady doctors. Phone number is 454-4242.

For dental care, I've been going to (and can recommend) Scotia Square Dentistry in Scotia Place (10060 Jasper Ave NW). Dr Heit is very professional and friendly. Her practice is state of the art all-digital equipment, and her staff are fantastic.

The practice is open only Monday to Thursday, but the hours are from 7.15 to 16.30. When I've phoned for appointments I've usually got in the very next day or so.

I'll be watching others' recommendations for GPs - I, too, am without one at the moment.

Cheers.

For dental appointments, I go to Jasper Avenue Dental ( http://www.2th.com/index.html ), and my dentist there is Dr. Beauchamp. I've found him to be a friendly and reliable dentist.

I go to doctor appointments at the 2nd floor in the Standard Life Building, across 105 St from Jasper Avenue Dental. My GP, Dr. Campbell, there is a female and has been very good at what she does. However, as far as I know, she isn't taking in new patients.

Thanks for the recommendations folks...yeah most good doctors already have enough patients on their hands...the last time i went to the Mediclinic, I had to wait 2.5 hours and the doctor saw me for 2.5 minutes. It was ridiculous.

Scott Taskey in the Phipps/McKinnon building is good, been going to him for 20 years. Not DT but Blue Spruce[ Ithink is the name] Clinic at 167ave and 100 street is all female GP's I believe and I think I saw a sign saying they had a new one looking for pts.

The Medi Centre is good there. The lab is very good too, much quieter than elsewhere (although the hours are a bit restricted now). However, the regular GP's in the building are very restrictive as to who they will accept. I understand that unless you are a friend of theirs, or family member of an existing patient, it is pretty much impossible to get in.

This is a big problem in the city, it can be very hard to get a GP close to where you live, especially when you move to a new neighborhood. A consequnce of growth I guess. I do wish more GPs would have waiting lists though, rather than informal processes to decide who they do or don't accept. This seems to discriminate against new residents in neighborhoods, who do not have the right "connections". Sorry, don't mean to turn this into a rant, but we have been annoyed by this and it must be affecting others too

very true maohunter. My first thought reading this post was "good luck!". It took me ages to 1) find my doctor then 2) be added to her list. I literally had to beg!

I heard there's a medical clinic near 118 St and 102 Ave called possibly Allen Clinic (or something along those lines). Does anybody know about this clinic?

Does anyone know of a good dentist in the University area? I've located a few, but I'm not sure how good they are. Any recommendations?

Resurrecting this thread because the dental clinic I've been going to for many years is angering me with scheduling snafus. It's outside of downtown, which adds to the inconvenience. I've only stayed with them because I've seen the dentist since I was a kid.

I need to find another dentist in the downtown core. Are the downtown recommendations above still good? How easy is it for them to accept new patients?

Dr. Bondar has an office on I think 120th street and 102nd Avenue. I've never had much of an issue with scheduling with him, he starts quite early (7am I believe a couple times a week) so it's nice to get that out of the way before work in the morning, instead of taking 2 hours in the middle of the day.

I've been a patient of Dr. Rob Andrew in Edmonton. He's a part of "Go2Smilezone". If anyone is still looking, I would definitely check them out, pretty convenient.

Agreed. Dr. Magathan is amazing and the clinic is a very comfortable and friendly place. Full marks to all the staff.

I've also seen Dr. Foreman there and she is top notch too.

Smile Medicentres (walk-in) in Edmonton

http://www.medicentres.com/Edmonton%20locations.html

I have nothing bad to say with my experiences with Calgary Medicentre clinics I've dealt with. I have yet to go to an Edmonton clinic but if standards are in place, then they should not be that much different. Rather than get frustrated hunting for a regular female family doctor which I got used to growing up, I find this walk-in clinic a real convenience.

True that the wait is long, but it's like knowing that you'll be driving during rush hour traffic, you just have to give ample time for a doctor's visit in a walk-in clinic. Or come prepared - be it questions based on your symptoms or just info you have researched (Google or thedoctorstv.com are helpful) before you see a doctor so you don't waste each one's time. Or for female issues, I make a phone call in a clinic location until I find a female doctor on-duty on a particular day.

Recommended: Come early when they open until before noon. If you plan to come noon or later, phone first to find out if they have evening doctors or they will close early. It takes on average 2 hours of wait-time until you actually see the doctor. Then it takes at least 5 mins (yes, had that one!) or more for the doctor-patient meeting.

Note
: If you're moving to another city/province, you can request (and pay for) a history of your medical records to pass on to your next doctor or clinic.
