Nice one Feds - this kind of investment benefits everyone not just the few.

More on the River Valley Alliance:
http://www.rivervalley.ab.ca/ I like the money spent on the river valley. I think it would be great to see the Legislature grounds be made a priority. Edmonton is a provincial capital, and an interface with the river valley would really be great (Map 4 looks great!).

Wow! That's fantastic news. I was completely unaware they were working on this. What a wonderful vision. Just made my day!

It would be great for groups of people to be able to walk that trail. Maybe young kids could go walk from Edmonton to Devon. Pitch tents overnight half way there and do the same coming back. That would be a nice weekend for kids.

Joys of government funding to a group of civic employees. Lets see $30 million will pay for one more signature bridge over the river out of sight of most people with about $8 million left to put in a whole bunch of overpriced benches and replant trees where they bulldozed them while building trails (new paved trail to Henday from Terwilligar). Based on their past spending history I don't see this money going very far. Still not all bad... we still should get one more bridge out of it.

Add another $50 million from the province and $30 million from other municipalities, $30 million from the feds. $110 million, it's a start on a project that is projected to cost $600 million in total. It was also noted that the feds may give more in the future but, that could mean 20 years down the road.

Since Edmonton's bid for Expo 2017 was dumped, this is a "poor man's" compromise.
$30M is fine, but peanuts in today's economy.

It's a good start, but I think the ultimate goal should be continuous top of bank and riverside trails on both sides of the river.

If that's their goal, making up for their pathetic support for anything related to Edmonton, then they might want to try giving Edmonton some major money for transit or other large infrastructure projects.

Oh yes, sweet. I take it all back, I love Stephen Harper now!
Honesty though, meh. Post Portrait Gallery, post-Expo, I'm still voting ABC.

I had a look at the design proposal under the legislature and find it quite interesting. I like the fact that they have river valley road set into a tunnel and fully extend the leg grounds right to the river.

This will be my favorite part of the river valley project, and I think I'd like to see this area done in time for 2017, Canada's 150th anniversary. Even without Expo, the Walterdale Bridge, River Valley, Legislature and Arena District will give Edmonton a new "Wow" factor.

As on a different thread, I wonder if this plan includes a revitalization of the Strathcona Science Park. An integrated look at past and present technologies would be an asset.
